AMD Phenom II X4 965 gigahertz help

Thread Starter
Looking at my GPU tester, I'm reading 2.2 ghz. When I bought the CPU it said it was 3.4 GHz.

Is this a problem?

Well you most likely have Cool n Quiet enabled. Try running a stress test, then check your CPU speed. If it is back to 3.4 Ghz, then that is the case. You can disable it in the BIOS.

Yup I do, but I don't want to fry my CPU.

AMD Cool 'N Quiet automatically lowers voltage and frequency for power savings while you idle or do easy tasks. This is why cpu-z shows 2.2 GHz or lower with just your web browser open.

When your cpu usage is high it will scale back up to the rated 3.4GHz. It's similar to Intel Turbo Boost; performance when you need it, power savings when you don't.

Cool'n'quiet downclocks the processor IF there is little to no load. Otherwise it works fine and processor runs full speed when needed. This assists with processor and motherboard longetivity.
