AMD Quad Core into a Dual Core?

Thread Starter
I have an AMD Phenom II x4 Quad core Black Edition 965, what I want to do is turn it into a bad a** dual core. Is there a way to dedicate say core 1 and 3 to the same tasks and then again with 2 and 4? And not just individual programs all the time dedication? Can it be done and if so how do i do it?

It doesn't work like that, you cannot split up a single threaded task across multiple cores.

You either disable the cores in the BIOS and they are fully off, or they stay on.

Why would you want to disable cores?

Like I said in the duplicate thread you made, no it doesn't work like that.

Also, we can plainly see your other thread, don't think double the threads results in double the replies.

I would only disable cores for higher OC , and compare dual vs quad XD

Anyways, there isnt a point in disabling cores.

Task manager > processes tab > set core affinity can let you limit programs to certain cores (i.e. 1&3, 2&4 or any combination you want)
Also, one thread only please

I can't remember where I read it but some guy was writing about turning his x6 into a x4 and it just being wicked as all get out with the OC. But like Speced wrote "I would only disable cores for higher OC" so maybe I just didn't read it thoroughly enough and he dropped the two cores for the OC? Don't know but you all have made me feel like an idiot for asking but I thank you for the replies.
