Hi guys,

First time builder here, just ordered my parts. I will be posting pictures as stuff comes in and I start assembling. Here's the list -

ASRock Z68 Extreme4
MSI R6950 2GB Twin Frozr III
Intel i5-2500k
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
Spinpoint F3 1TB
LITE-ON DVD-R w/ LightScribe
NZXT Hades Mid-Tower
Antec HCG 750W
Microsoft Sidewinder X4
Logitech G9x
XTRAC PADS Ripper
Windows 7 Pro
_______________________________________________
Total | $1,250

I already own a Samsung 943bx monitor (19†1280x1024), I will be looking to add a 24†1080p to this soon. Eventually, I might get another 943bx for a budget eyefinity setup. (24†16:9 and 19†5:4 have the same screen height). I’ll also be getting an H50 or similar for the CPU soon, I know it’s a cardinal sin to run a 2500k at stock clocks here

Probably going to play mostly BC2 for now (on the fence w/ the BF3 DLC stuff), and some RTS games. Overkill for RTS, I know, but I wanted it to run BC2 well.

I kid, I kid. But seriously with that nice hardware it wouldn't hurt.

I've built a similar PC and it's working really great. Came from a Athlon X2 and after this upgrade I had so much more fun in BC2 and without the lags I played much better Congrats on the purchase.

Haha I know. I've been thinking about it, but I really can't afford it at the moment and I have other things I want to buy first (new monitor, new desk, new chair). Also, I'm still not convinced it's truly worth it yet. My standards for computers are pretty low, too - I'm coming out of a 2008 macbook that wasn't running great and I'm a (soon to be) ex-Xbox gamer. My only other frame of reference is my PC at work (Xeon W3680, Quadro 4000).

Thanks for all the kind words, everybody!

I haven't been this excited since Christmas when I was 12!

I've seen a lot of people test their set up before installing it into the case. What is the reason for this? I'm getting the mobo, GPU and CPU today, but the PSU isn't coming til tomorrow. Would it hurt to put the mobo, GPU and CPU into the case tonight?

Good, smart build man.

Coming from lolbox you should see a world of graphical improvements you never thought possible!

Also, no it won't hurt at all, it'll actually help you! and save time tomorrow

I can't wait to see this beast destroy BC2. I'm actually looking forward to doing a side-by-side comparison with the box. The funny thing is, I'm spending enough on the computer that it will be a few weeks before I get BC2, so I'll be playing Company of Heroes for a little while (RTS, 2006, $10!). Actually, I'll probably try out TF2, since it's free.

Also, thanks about the install. I figured as much, but it seems like in a lot of build threads people boot up the first time with their mobo on the bench, not in the case.
