I am a bit confused on the S/H math ?

Which # goes on top of the equation ? Let's say .... fake numbers mind you

L/S pressure converts to - 50 F and the accumulator temp converts to - 45 F. Which number is on top and which is on the bottom so I know I am in positive or negative territory ?

Edit

Part of the issue is that adding charge does not bring the L/S out of a deep vacuum fast enough . Reducing the charge right now to a static H/S of 120 psi . Guess I'll start over again but I have a feeling that something is keeping the system from adjisting it self to addition or subtraction of charge and the poor results will be the same

Thanks

Subtract the saturated suction temp from the suction line temp. So in this case you have -50F(SLT) - (-45F SST) = -50F + 45F = -5F s/h

You always want the SLT warmer than the SST. You need to get the s/h positive. In this case start with 8F unloaded and go from there.

OK , Now I have the s/ h math understood . Thank You !

I decided last Sunday night to remove the entire charge as it was just not going to happen with that restrictive low side tee . We all new it was a possability from the "git go" .

Once the charge was recovered , I removed the schrader cores . The low side tee was full of oil up to the top of the access valve . Lost about a teaspoon of oil . Unbrazed the suction line in one piece all the way to accum. Then unbrazed all the joints one at a time and individually found no other blockages. I was able to re bend the accum. line this time and get rid of one un needed joint, new 3/8" tee , uncoiled the cap line at the evap and placed the excess cap tube in the case as it should have been from the start and just due to all the tourture the compressor has endured , installed a new filter / dryer. I also cleaned out the accum. filter screen with a modded vaccum cleaner hose (Drewmeister suggestion... thanks) . If you do this you mst be VERY careful not to poke a hole in the screen , they are very fragile. All was back togeather ... first vac down 138 microns . Charge nitro to 250 psi , sat over night . Second vac down to 138 microns ... charge nitro to 250psi and sit over night . I burnt the sleaving on one wire during the hole process and it is a compressor wire so easy to re do . Will pull last vac in the morning and then be ready to charge .

All rightee then ... that is ware we are today . Four day's later

Sorry for the "wall of words" but I wanted everyone to know exactly what happened and most of all , that I haven't left the project

Wow ! finally someone asked . "Hey Flocko , what the hell happened " ?

Thanks SD for the inquiry.

Well , seems there are two possible issues .

#1 Bad valve in the compressor (low side i would suspect)
#2 Blockage in the evap .

One common thread remains . Even with an *ss load of charge ( all the way to 260 h/s ) the low side will not come out of a vacuum. At that high of head pressure the s/h is way high obviously ! That is at 300 watt load @ -29C .

I am currently waiting on a new evap as I do not have the skills to un braze the shell on the old one . The new evap is going to be pre brazed for me . All I will have to do is braze in the new cap tube , braze in the suction line to the evap stub and then braze in the cap tube to filter /dryer . Test the system and see what happens . I will be ready to do this (i hope) next Saturday .

If that don't fix it then the compressor is the only part left that could be the cause .

All my sources don't currently have another 7/8 hp matsu available .... so I could be screwed here if that compressor is bad .

We will see next week end

Thanks .... -Flocko

Hey guy's :

Received my new evap last week or so and got everything re brazed and vacuum / charge .

Made it to -35 C @ about 300 watts of load and let the unit run for hours and held up great !!

High side is a bit low now @ 210 psig but the low side is around 3 psig . We had a big cold front move through and my ambient temps were 10 F lower than normal and may account for the lower head pressure . Super heat is still way to low so some more tweaking will be needed. Looks like the compressor is fine and the new evap did the trick ... Thanks Drew !

When I finished testing , I was so pleased with the results that I made a HUGE rookie mistake . Shut the unit down and walked away WITHOUT shutting off the load tester . Smoke in the entire house . At 300 watts of heat with no cooling the load tester face , cartridge heaters and a lot of insulation along with two thermal probes , my clam shell and foam insert were TOAST.

The evap was fine but the load tester will need overhauling with new clam shell and foam insert . I think I should be up and running this week end .

I will post up the proof pics with the numbers as soon as possible.

Reggie : Thanks for the post . Been an EXTREMELY long haul and as sdumper said ... and was correct, I have gained quite a bit of grey hair for the little bit left I haven't pulled out . Uh... you need to work on your sig .... I love it !

Fellas : It has been a very "trying time" with many , many issues along the way . I finally got a decent but less than expected result from testing this unit for the past two weeks with many different charges and many different load wattage's. The pics tell the story .

Apparently the evap suffers from a low pressure issue with this particular set up . The new evap was modified some to help correct this problem but it was just not enough . I have a final load of 250 watts and the results are in the photos as follows .

H/S = 235 psig
L/S = -4 psig
Accumulator = -34 C ( T-1 on temp meter)
Evaperator = -37 C (T-2 on temp meter)
Load wattage = 250
Condenser input temp = 30 C
Condenser output temp = 34 C (T-3 on the temp meter)
compressor temp = 87 C
Load tester temp = -13.6 C ( T-4 on the temp meter )

I obviously have some sort of contact issue as the load tester temps are quite high so that will need to be addressed. After that is resolved I will tune for 300 watt load and post back .

I'm not done yet . LOTS of other stuff to do on the unit so stay with me here

Just to take a moment : I want to THANK DREWMEISTER for hanging in there with me though thick and thin . I can assure you I have drove him nuts with one issue or another for quite some time now . Thanks Drew

Stay tuned .... were not done just yet !! If anyone has questions .... please ask .

Thank You ALL !!
