Sandy Bridge Rig For Friend - Page 2

do you think i should just get a good single 580 for graphics? maybe the ASUS matrix or the MSI lighting? im a little weary of any SLI or CF setups cause so far, it has done just abt nothing good to my games... tons of annoying bugs with lighting which makes games like silent hunter 5 and crysis 2(fullscreen only) unplayable...

as for the HDD, should i get 2 caviar blacks in RAID 0 or 4 caviar blacks in RAID 10? i heard something abt RAID 10 not very good with on-board RAID controllers?

as for keyboard, mouse and headphones, i already have a logitech G15, logitech G700, and a sennheiser PC360 so i wont be needing to upgrade them.

well, here is what i think i will get,

CPU
Core i7 2600K

MoB
ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Professional

RAM
Corsair Vengance (2X4GB)

graphics
ASUS MATRIX GTX580 P/2DIS/1536MD5 GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

SSD
128GB Crucial m4 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s

HDD
WD caviar black 1TB 64MB (X4 in RAID 10 or X2 in RAID 0 or X3 in RAID 5... i really need some help on this one.)

optical
Lite-On iHBS212

cpu cooler
Corsair H80

sound card
Creative sound blaster X-Fi Titainium Fatal1ty Champion series (or just the normal one... but the front panel is desired because of some space and wiring limitations... rooms in HK are tiny...)

Power
Antec HCG-900

fan controller
NZXT Sentry 2

case
Thermaltake V9 BlacX edition

case fans
probably gonna get a slot fan and 2 incase fans to improve the airflow cause the case only has 2 fans left after the H80

according to HK prices, it would be about 2327 dollars.

do you guys think that it would last 3 years with good gaming abilities? i will not be upgrading for the next 3 years after i finish this rig. i will also be doing some video encoding and maybe some basic programming for a school course... any advice would be greatly appreciated smile.gif

If you go for the Samsung F3s it's cheaper, and for a tiny bit more you can double that (to 8tb, 4tb usable space in RAID 10) with the Samsung F4s.

I know someone here has had problems with the OCZ Vertex 3, however they have better speeds than the M4s.

Just my 2cents.gif

Those are some high CPU temps if you havent overclocked yet. I have the H80 and it doesnt reach the 50's. After you overclock try reaching the lowest stable vcore manually to reduce temps.

Trouble overclocking? Check this guide and this other one.
