IMO D3 doesn't even compare to PoE. I'm in the beta for D3, and I hadn't bothered with it after playing it on/off for a week. It's only 13 (?) levels, but still, pretty boring I think.
In PoE, slaughtering mobs (for hours at a time) is much more satisfactory.

Wish I could play arg! Ordered a xai it came defective. Waiting on the company to get back to me about a refund. I did order another one off eBay waiting on the seller to ship it or say he shipped it. So frustrating not have a completely working mouse. Hopefully I can play by next Tuesday.

it's unfortunate that they decided to release the game AFTER diablo3 release... most people would have jumped on board with this game just to satisfy their itch waiting for D3. but as of now, it's unlikely that a large number of action RPG gamers would even know this game exists...

I'm still gonna try this game when it's released, but they really need to kick this thing into open beta soon to have any chance of building any kind of publicity and awareness in the gaming community. I like the concept of the game but can not honestly recommend it to anyone else unless I've had 1st hand experience with it. by releasing after D3, the point is moot since most people who are into action RPG will have been sucked into blizzard's marketing campaign and wouldn't even give this game a try.

I agree.

Also, i really want to try this game (missed the free weekend) but i will be buying D3. So chances of me playing this now are pretty slim. Needed to be released before D3 and then i probably wouldn't have even bought D3.

I think people will still buy D3 no matter if PoE or Torchlight 2 was released before D3. You buy the $60 dollar game May 15th. Also get the FREE game. Then wait a month or go without some fast food and get Torchlight 2. Just which game will get the most play time is the thing.

PoE will appeal to a completely different crowd anyway. These two games are in the same genre but are nothing alike. D3 is a more casual oriented game aimed at the mainstream audience and which requires no character planning. PoE is more of a niche game and that is how it will survive. PoE will offer some things that D3 does not on top of being free.

It's almost like comparing MW3 vs. BF3. Some people like both but many people hate one or the other.

Either way it doesn't matter to me. I don't care who plays PoE or not. The point is that I will play it and support it but I will not play D3 at all.

And then, eventually, Grim Dawn will be released, and we'll all get that one, too.

I don't think it's a coincidence that all of these other games are following D3 to market, rather than having tried to beat it. Ever watched a highway crew at work? Nobody stands in front of the steamroller. wink.gif All of the other developers are going to wait until D3 drops, and they'll listen to the gamers who complain about it. Then they'll tweak their own marketing to emphasize those points. Torchlight 2 will point to its moddability and local LAN options. Path of Exile will point to its skill tree and atmosphere. Grim Dawn will point to whatever its feature set includes (there's video of a rotating camera, but the game is still pre-alpha, so who knows what will be in the release). None of them ever stood a chance of taking money away from Diablo III; they just want to be the game you're playing 6-12 months from now instead of Diablo III.

I'm not saying PoE will take market share away from D3. I'm saying from the point of view of building awareness of the game to the gamer market that is interested in the action RPG genre. before i read this thread, i had no idea PoE existed... after watching the vids on youtube, i'm interested in how this game develops. however, if i never read this thread, ALL i would have known were D3 and torchlight. it's a matter of marketing via publicity. the more people KNOW about the game then the more people would try it. if i never read this thread, and i hated D3, then i would have just waited for torchlight2 instead of trying this game out.

it doesn't look like grinding gear games have a large marketing budget...(never personally seen a banner ad on any of the game sites I go to... but, then again i don't pay attention to banner ads tongue.gif ) anyway i'm just saying, from a strategic marketing point of view. it's alot easier to get the word out about this game if you have something to satisfy the itch while people are waiting for D3. for example, IF this game goes open beta on may 1st. and D3 doesn't get released till the 15th, that's 2 whole weeks that action RPG people would be knocking on their servers and talking about PoE if they never got a beta invite into D3... this thread would get TONS of traffic by people playing beta to satisfy their itch for D3isque style game.

IMO, this game would be fairly successful just from the conceptual point of view (passive tree with active gems/aug's) it's "different" from how other games have done it and I for one would love to try it to see how this "reversed" style of progression works out from a gameplay point of view.

there are a few things i'm not really looking forward to in this game tho... i'm more of a pack rat when it comes to loot management biggrin.gif i like to hang onto stuff just in case i need it later and the inventory management is NOT a minigame IMO. I've been driven away from various games in the past due to the tediousness of inventory management... kill one mob, 15 different loots drop..... time for another town portal... not really "fun". breaks up the game tempo too much for it to be enjoyable. there have been games that i've played that literally forces you to go back to town after every 3 to 5 kills... it's a turn off and not really worth the time to invest into a game. developer need to understand that the most expensive resources a player can invest into a game is TIME. the more time that is wasted into mundane things like inventory management, the less interesting the game becomes in the long run. nobody ever praised a game by saying how much time they spent traveling back and forth to the town so they can clean out their inventory and selling junk.... I hope this gets taken care of before the game is released.

I played in the beta for this game and while I don't think it sucks I found it slower paced and well boring compared to most other Action rpg's.

In my opinion if any action rpg is going to challenge Diablo III it will be Grim Dawn as it's being created by the same folks who made Titan Quest, which in my opinion is the only other action rpg to ever be as good as Diablo.
