It's much better to release a finely polished game than to release an unfinished game just to make a deadline. People who play the unfinished game and don't like it may never come back later to see if it's better. They will make their judgement right then and that's it. Plus they will only say negative things about it. PoE already gets some of that negative rumor from the beta version (people don't seem to understand what beta means).
Just read through the posts in this thread alone and you'll find some comments that are based on things that are planned but not implemented yet. Imagine if it was the release and it was like it is...

well, this is partly because i'm not in beta:D from the vids, it looks like the game is fairly "ready". but if there are indeed numerous game breaking bugs that would turn players away, then I'd have agree with holding off till the game is ready. it just seems to be a shame that they aren't able to ride on the publicity of the D3 hype and would end not being more of a footnote when it finally release since a great majority of the players interested in ARPG would already be playing D3 and would have little interest in looking for other alternatives.

granted, D3 by itself isn't as attractive as PoE as far as an overall package (no skill tree) but if i didn't even know about PoE, then i really wouldn't be looking for an alternative, since I would consider D3 the top product of the genre.

I understand where you are coming from and it's a valid argument.

I am of the opinion that D3 has ruined the replay value of the genre. So many of the hardcore/elitest players will get bored with the game rather quickly. Probably right around the time that PoE releases. wink.gif

But also, word of mouth is enough to self-promote this game. If all games in this genre are like PoE when it comes to chat, then people will be talking about PoE in D3 just as people talk about D3 in PoE. People will also troll in D3 saying how the game is for kids and whatnot which will make some players want to see why PoE is so different (unless D3 doesn't have any form of global chat, which will further hurt the replay value). Players of D3 will more than likely know about PoE. Then they will decide for themselves which one they prefer. It doesn't cost a thing to try PoE, so they have nothing to lose by checking it out.

In June PoE goes to open beta and adds a 3rd act, so anyone can play at that point.

The game still needs a lot of work, but it's going to be a great game when it's finished. In fact, they are both great games from respective perspectives, just aimed at different audiences. Which is why neither one is going to really hurt the other.

i was playing D3 beta this weekend, and was bored with it after 1st playthrough biggrin.gif partly because they locked the difficulty at normal and i was like wake me up when there are mobs to kill that takes more then 1 swing biggrin.gif would be interesting to see how nightmare plays on D3, but the lack of a skill tree is already showing it's ugly face in terms of depth of the game. it's the 1st game i felt i can play on a 360 controller instead of needing a kb / mouse. still i haven't had a chance to play with crafting and seeing the rest of the game so i wont condemn it so early in the trial. I don't know how bad the bugs are in PoE, but i think some kind of limited open beta weekend would definitely do a good job getting the word out.

They had an open stress test weekend not long ago tongue.gif

all i'm saying is this thread really needs more then a bump every 2 days or so... the amount of traffic in all of the game sites are sucked into the D3 threads and that's bad for this game...

I was and still am a huge D2 fan. So far I have been let down by D3. This looks like its going to be great though!

Finally got into the beta a couple days ago.

was kinda surprised. I didnt even finish downloading the game until earlier this afternoon.

I looked through all 5 characters briefly and decided to go with one I would least likely to play which was the Witch. I only played up to where we reach the town at the beginning.

Seems alright so far. The atmosphere is pretty good. Im so used to D2 settings though tongue.gif. My mind is like programmed to use D2 keys only. Not that bad though.

Felt like I was playing a MMORPG with all these other guys running around. Must be a beta thing I guess. The skill tree is insane. I dont even know where to start really.

BTW, the people that donated a grand for a game that hasnt even released yet is CRAZY. I mean, I hate to question their decisions because in the end it's their money, but wow, just wow.

I guess all that stuff that comes with it is worth it to some people.

I really didn't enjoy the game. The animations seem so clunky to me. The really really complex customization system is more of a turn off than a turn on.

My main focus will still be D3, followed by GW2. I absolutely loved both when I played them.

the problem i see for this game right now is the 1 week 4 day since the last bump... all of the traffic is sucked into D3 right now and it's a pretty big hurdle for them to overcome in June. it's gonna take a hell of alot to get people to switch once they get sucked into the blizzard marketing machine...
