I wonder if this game will become more popular once its "out" and game review sites post reviews on it. It is bound to get high ratings and being free is 1 click away to having a full "trial" from where there is no way back.

Lol... Slowly working on my Marauder. lvl 57. Got a bit burnt out with the game so went to WoT. Solo running the ledge atm. I so don't have enough health to do anything else. In need of 2-3 more lvls.

Current build: Witch Summoner.

I've got Summon zombies, skeletons and spectre. I can have 7 zombies each with 466 hp, 9 skeletons (about 200hp), and a spectre (Depends on target). Due to a keystone, my shield stats apply to my minions - i.e. HP regen and elemental resist. My mana regen is 30.1/sec (clarity aura is op), so I can spam these guys insanely fast. Meanwhile my main attack is Arc with increased crit. Arc is 'talentless' as if you are near enemies and hold the key down, it auto-targets. In addition, the attack speed with arc and its mana use puts its mana per sec to LOWER than my regen rate.

Basically, I show up to an area, kill 7 mobs by holding down mouse2, summon a TON of guys, then just proceed forward while shooting lighting everywhere, and having my 3.5kHP worth of zombies tank everything.

This is at lvl 31, btw. My ranger is lvl 41 and actually requires skill biggrin.gif

What you're doing sounds similar to a Arc Summoner. Elemental Proliferation on Arc and the increase shock chance passives greatly boost your minion’s damage. I'm using something similar, but I am focused more on my Arc doing damage than my minions doing the damage. Also, I use a arc totem with fast cast and elemental proliferation (while casting a damage focused arc) instead of a skeleton totem. It's a lot of fun.

Depends on the review site and the target audience. I imagine plenty of websites will give it a low-ish score. "Needs an auction house!" "Trading is too difficult." "The passive skill tree isn't friendly enough" "The game doesn't do nearly enough to teach new players the ropes." "Combat isn't as good as D3, and isn't that a corner stone of action RPG's?" "Comparing items is difficult. There is too much ambiguity without reducing items to one number" "This game doesn't do enough to capture the female and LGBT audience" (looking at you, Kotaku) "Why isn't there a currency system revolving around gold?" "It's too easy to get lost in this game, where are the quest markers?"

Of course some of these are exaggerations and jokes, but you get the idea. I'm sure it will be gain some traction, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 7/10 from a lot of "official reviewers" with the numbers being much higher for the communities that really are into this genre.

most of your quotes are moot. the reason why its not "simple" (that single word was a summary of the complaints i read from your post) is because its not supposed to be. It's not supposed to be a game geared towards GGG making a huge profit and retiring with 24k gold lined pockets and $100k cars... its a game created by players, for the players. Not for the faint of heart; and required a hint of intelligence. The game doesn't have "gold" because GGG didn't want to have to develop sinks. All sinks do is piss people off and this topic is covered in great detail on their forums. This also goes to address why there is no AH. As far as trading goes... not sure how it is "difficult". It is simple... use the forums... whisper players... post in trade thread... invite the player to party, portal to town. make trade. done.

I don't want you to think im attacking you personally with my defenses, but the "problems" you suggested have all been answered in much depth on the official forums. Therefore, if what you say is true (that new players honestly have these complaints) then I would suggest reading more into the game before playing it. Read the forums. Read about GGG.

Sure the game is not perfect, and the only valid argument I see is the "combat is not as good as D3", but it is what true arpg fans want. period. Comparing items is not difficult if you know the game and how to play it.... and saying the game doesn't do enough to teach the players the ropes is kind of... dumb. What does this even mean? As far as game mechanics like resists? armor? i don't understand... no game tells you how the mechanics of offense/defense work. You have to play it to figure it out! ...now, if you are referring to how to use skills and basic stuff like that... then I suggest re-rolling a level one toon and it's pretty common-sensical how stuff works, I think folks are just too used to the no brainer D3 where you don't have to think about stats and skills and you just click and go.

In any case,,, I think you are right on the money. Groups that are into this kind of genre will rate it high. Because it deserves it and that is the audience it was aimed for anyway! Anyone who says otherwise is just kind of stupid honestly. They started development with ZERO budget (meaning they had no money) and the game progressed to where it is from there. Go ahead and donate a few million dollars to GGG and have them re-work the engine and add some physics and then it would truely blow D3 out of the water in every way, shape and form.

EDIT: again, this was not intended to be aimed at dayofthegreek, rather just a defensive response to the ideas he put forth in his post

Lol.. Could you imagine POE with PhyX and TressFX.

I finally replaced my blue gloves. Overpaid massively, but bout time. They added over 200 armour, and I only lost 50 dps on my heavy strike. Not to mention I get the health bonus. Now to make them 20%.

Not worth the 2 chaos, but it's the first thing I have seen that I would consider replacing them with.

No offence taken. I love the game and I agree with most of your points. But keep that reply handy so you don't have to rewrite it in the comments section on game review websites or in the Video Game News section of this website when official reviews start getting posted.

While the forums and fans of the game agree that no gold and no auction house is a good thing, there will ALWAYS be a crowd of people who don't understand why the game lacks these basic "features," when really it's not as much of a feature as it is a purposeful design choice. No explaining will convince them and neither will the amount of funding the devs had. Different = bad. Doesn't have = need.

I've seen it time and time again. My post was more about the sad state of game reviews than actual complaints about this game. I actually need to play it more, but I keep firing up D2 instead tongue.gif

Most of the issues I have with the game are pretty similar to what everyone else is experiencing.

Desync is an issue on enemies that are very prone to it, otherwise I'm hardly affected (ranged classes ftw).

Trading is somewhat of a nuisance because people overprice crappy items and low ball for actually good items. Don't even get me started on how many people I've had complain to me because they didn't check if they were outbid or not.

The templar. His starting area is the best in the entire tree, but his voice acting in the worst (GO WITH GAAWWD), and he wears a diaper looking thing. blinksmiley.gif

Anyone else really exciting for 10.2 to come out?
Desync is an issue. GGG has commented that it is one of there main priorities.

The game is still in open beta and will be for a long time. It is hard to complain about a game when it is still in this phase with weekly patches that are constantly addressing the most pressing needs.

I agree the passive skill tree at first glance can be a little overwhelming, but it is actually pretty easy to understand if you put a little thought in your character. There are really only 2 options. Go south for a melee/physical minded character or north for a caster/elemental minded character. The beauty is in all the ways people figure out what specialty nodes to pick up along the way to maximize a spec.

The currency argument doesn't make a lot of sense. There are actually tones of currency in the game. It just isn't called gold. The best part about the currency in the game is it is useful for more than just to purchase things. This system, to me, is infinitely better than a plain gold system. You have the ability to chance the best items in the game.

Combat is slow at the start, but so is D3. However, again to me, the combat is infinitely more customizable. You are pigeon holed into just a few end game specs in D3. Take the barb. You can run WW spec or a variant of HOTA. In the end you have 2 choices if you want to be efficient. Look at the Marauder for POE. You can make a physical or elemental bow spec, 2h spec, 1h + shield caster, or summoner. That is just 4 broad specs. Within them you can specialize such as going for a ground slam build, or sweep, or leap slam Even a combination using 3 for various purposes.

Maybe you are talking about how fluid the game is. Again I say POE does it better. This aspect does not really shine until later in the game when you have higher level gems, generally linked to support gems.

Lets talk about gems vs runes. You can select one rune per ability in D3. Where is the fun in that. People will use the rune that is the best for that skill. Gems and the ability to link gems in this game make dull abilities come to life. Ice Spear gem linked with a spell totem gem is a slow boring skill. If you have a 4 socket linked item and you attach a GMP and faster casting that ability becomes a freezing machine that can trivialize most encounters.

It does humor me that an independent and small company such as GGG has the ability to create randomly generated zones but D3 could not even though it was promised during development. Ladders? D3 has none and PoE is in their first ladder season, while in beta, and it has 109 events. A point system for those events and rewards.

What end game does D3 have accept farming the same Alkiezer path until you pass out? Maps in PoE give you countless hours of game play that never repeats. The map might be the same environment but the randomness of the level and the modifiers you put on it with your currency make it a unique experience each time.

As much as I love D2 it is very hard to play a game stuck in 800x600.

All and all this game is leaps and bounds better than D3 and if the above isn't enough to get someone excited then the game isn't for them.

- Damage boosts to at least five skills.
- Improvements to the visual effects of several skills.

I wonder what skills get the boost.

Also, I hope they um tone down, balance, fix ... do something to the visual effects of 6 people using aoe skills with chain and/or fork and turning the screen into a fire works display. I'm glad I use Arc and I don't have to target anything to be effective, but I wonder how anyone else finds a monster in the blinding light show.
