not except for Metro 2033 and crysis 2 DX11 w/ AA and high-res textures.

He'd see better performance selling 1 6970, and upgrading to an i5 2500k. Ask pioneerisloud. He went from a 3.8Ghz Ath II quad to a 2500k, and even @ stock, his performance w/ 1 GTX 470 was MUCH improved, beating me and my 5870(a slightly slightly stronger card), in pretty much anything and everything.

I'm an AMD fan due to their price/performance, but right now Sandy Bridge is the CPU to have. Until Bulldozer comes out and we see hard numbers, SB is the best price/perf. platform. You can get a decent LGA1155 board for around $100-150, and really good 1155 boards for around $200, either end is 99.9% guarantee of 4.2Ghz+, usually more like 4.5Ghz+.

But I have two and I like it.

That said, my old 1090t did not bottleneck these cards at all. I switched to 2500k and while there is no doubt it smoke the 1090t, I get the same performance in games.

The SAME FPS.

FWIW.
I doubt that, unless you play very old games or had Vsync

This.
I run two 6950s at 2560x1440, and even then I have more than enough performance right now. Even Crysis runs at more than 50fps with minimums over 40 fps, the performance is ridiculously strong.

The new 7 series are looking even more ridiculous with the die shrink. Can AMD give their CPU team what they give their GPU team?

If you actually look at fps comparisons with a PHII or Thuban and compare it to the i5 and i7 rigs at real world settings, you'll see that the difference isn't very big at all if the cpu-nb is overclocked.

Get whatever you want OP. But the only thing you're going to notice is more noise and power consumption.

If your monitor is only 60Hz then it's pointless to crank out 100+ FPS.

If you have an X4 Phenom II, I suggest spending that money upgrading to Sandy Bridge or Bulldozer before doing anything about the video cards. Two 6970's for one 1080p display should be ample power.

I have 2 6970's (well 6950's unlocked) and they are awesome, they run fine on my 750w psu which is good and also I have an I5 750 @ 4GHZ and I have never seen my cpu usage go up to 100% during ANY game.
The highest it has been is at about 75% and that is playing crysis 2 with direct x 11, high res textures and ultra quality.
Just keep them, I don't think you would see much improvement upgrading your processor.
