Need Phenom X6 1090T overclock advice

Thread Starter
I currently have it set to just 3.7 GHz on stock cooling and used AI Suite II to lower the voltage from something like 1.45 that it was set to down to 1.35 since I didn't that that was necessary really (and didn't want to risk it).

It's summer right now and my room temperature is pretty hot so I'm getting 44C on idle desktop to 46C when being slightly used. It rises and settles to around 49C-52C during gaming (Heroes of Newerth or Starcaft II).

I don't want to spend money on aftermarket cooling just yet since I'm waiting for the Bulldozer release anyway. My motherboard's an ASUS Crosshair V Formula and running an EVGA GTX 570 HD Superclocked further overclocked it myself to 850/1700/2000/80% fan, which is also blowing hot hair within my case. I've noticed my CPU temperatures have gone down (~2-3C) ever since I upped the GTX 570's fan to 60-80% fan speed from 40%.

If anyone has any suggestions or advice on how I can further OC my 1090T to something like 3.9 or 4.0 GHz safely, that would be appreciated. Keep in mind this will be under stock cooling. My chassis is the Chaser MK-1.

without getting a aftermarket cooler its probably not going to be possible. Go ahead and buy one now, it will work for your bulldozer later too.

So you guys are sure about getting an aftermarket cooler now and it'll fit the upcoming 8-core Bulldozer as well?

If so, which do you recommend? I wanted a more quiet but cool solution so I was looking at the Corsair H70.

Actually, I just read the H70 is a lot louder than the Noctua NH-D14 and Thermalright Silver Arrow. Since I'll be going with Bulldozer in a few months I guess I'll go with the D14 since it has specific compatibility with AM3+ while the Silver Arrow only has specified compatibility up to AM3, just to be on the safe side, especially since their performance are nearly identical anyway.

I would suggest getting one of those nice cheap closed water blocks or a decent air cooler. I like the water myself but that's more a personal preference thing~ The good after-market coolers should have no problem working after Bulldozer...
Also, as others have stated --- Keeping ambient room temps lower will decrease your case and load temps. If you can get a room AC going on in your PC room, you will notice a HUGE difference in temps.

Best of luck!

H70 isn't that loud nor is it bad. It cools well, but if you can find room for it then id suggest the H100 when it comes out...which they should be shipping out as we speak.

Yeah it definitely fits my ASUS Crosshair V Formula lol. My case is a full tower case as well. Got no AC right now so room temp is like 76F.

Sadly no AC =(.

GPU idling at 41 C (EVGA GTX 570 HD SC @ 850 MHz/1700/2000 - 1.05 volts) and full load at 73 C, fan's at 80% speed though -_- (using ATI Tool to put it on load)
CPU idling at 43 C and full load at 61-62 C after a few minutes on Prime 95, stays that way even if I leave it on for longer though.

It's also summer and room temps are at 76 F (26.66 C) so yeah.

If the H70 really isn't that loud I'd love to take it over the D14 since I saw the slight hassle with the installation of the D14.

Would love to get the H100 when it's fully available somewhere though. I've read the H70 has a dBa of 54 on high on a Hardware Heaven review though.

Still deciding.

*edit*
The H80 is the same dBa as the H100, what do you guys think of me getting that instead?
