I7 Help

I am about to order the M14x but they have a deal with save 15% when you buy $xxx in stuff. Along with another discount, this will make the i7 2820QM expensive yet some what affordable. But is it really worth it? Ir can I just save and get a 2720 or a 2630?

Basically, is there a huge performance gap between the 2820 and the other 2? Not going to be running many intense things, probably Bad Company 2 would be the most demanding.

No, no difference that is worth the extra cost. I have a 2630qm and it is very fast. The other chips have more cache, but I'm sure you'll never notice.

You're better off upgrading your gpu instead.

Really? Not even with the 2820? It can get up to 3.4GHz but 2630 can only get up to 2.9GHz. I would like to either boost that 2.9 by overclocking to a steady 3 flat or that 2720 seems nice.

Anyone else?

After looking at the prices, it seems like the best deal would be the 2720 in terms of clock speed to price. You would want to make sure you get the best processor possible at the time you buy it. The 3.0gb gpu would be a waste at that resolution so you might as well leave it at the 1.5gb.

Yeah, I'm not regarding the 3GB GPU. I just want to make sure its will handle some future games like BF3 and Star Wars TOR.

Well for the best deal, I'd still stick with the 2720 @ 3.3ghz. Not worth all that money for .1ghz and some cache you won't notice.

Thank you all, 2820 would be overkill for me. Now to that WiFi card thread...
