Is it one or the other? Not really that great of a deal for the Q8200 (highest ones go to ~ 3.4ghz with a bunch of voltage and a great motherboard, I had one a couple years back), and the Q8XXX series are pretty terrible overclockers - 2500k is a decent deal for $150 though

Used to have the q8200. But I wouldnt buy it for anymore than $65. You can easily find q6600 for $75 and it performs better.

I Dont know much about the 2500/2600k chips so I'll leave that with someone else.

Not quite sure what you're asking us? The 2500K is faster and the Q8200 is very low end.

Q8200 is a lousy chip not good for overclocking.

While the 2500k may be faster, for a drop in upgrade the Q8200 has a far better value. Keeping mind he will need a board and ram to go along with the 2500k, If you've got the money go ahead with the 2500k.

Ye, but there's a reason why it's so cheap. It's slow. Anyway, will he even be able to use it in a G31 board? I mean, not all 775 boards support 45 nm.

EDIT: For BF3, go i5. My friend has a Q8200 and in BC2 at 2.33 GHz it's not much faster than a good C2D.
