How much difference does the CPU fan make to temps?

Possibly a silly question, but im a n00b

I run an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. A while ago the fan which comes with it broke, so rather than buying a new Heatsink I simply attached an Arctic Cooling case fan to the heatsink. The thing is the stock Freezer fan moved 40 CFM, the fan I replaced it with moves 26.8 CFM. Logically to me this should mean my temps are going to be higher, correct?

If the difference is going to be significant, should i look into replacing this fan with one that moves more air?

You can get 60+ CFM fans for less than 10USD, you might as well try and ghetto a 120mm on there somehow

Also check this out, you may be able to get a replacement.

A high CFM fan will always make quite a big impact on the cooling performance, and those tend to be the ones that run at 1800+ RPM. This is assuming they're 120mm fans, as that is the standard size for most CPU coolers.

For the most part, you'd be sacrificing or trying to balance the CFM to Noise ratio if you don't want some fans too noisy. A good example would be the Scythe GentleTyphoon 1850s - they're all-round performers, amazing for both air and water cooling alike.

And then there are some fans like the San Ace 101 that run at over 40dba but are one of the best fans and provide significant cooling power.

The Freezer fan was 92mm, my current one is 80mm. If the temp difference is going to be significant I will look into replacing it, ive just got to find a fan that moves lots of air which isnt too noisy, my computer is really quiet atm, dont really want to mess that up!

Yeah the fans that are on coolers are quite important. There are a few factors taken into account when choosing them.

The big factor is that any high flow fan is going to cost you in noise and in price, yeah you can go cheap like suggested but they are cheap for a reason.

Replacing the fan with a lower performance fan is going to hurt your performance so you are better of getting a fan of equal or greater performance.

What kind of questions is this?

If you have no fan the hot air just lingers aroun the heatsink.

Though the average fan should go nicely, 38mm thick ones do a smasher job.

You might check Arctic Cooling's website. If they have a warranty, you could replace your fan and get your heatsink going again.

But if there is no warranty, or none left, do NOT pay money replace the fan on this junker. Get a good heatsink instead. None of the Arctic Cooling heatsinks do well in comparative reviews.

quite a bit of a difference
my cpu fan has quiet and performance settings
the performance setting drops it a nice 5 degrees but is too loud for my likiing
quiet is more than adequate
