Or, with your logic, someone in college?

And then, because being stupid enough to have your phone fly out of your pocket and into a wall wasn't enough, make an absolute fool out of himself by cussing at a costumer service rep?

AND, get his free stuff after yelling at someone who couldn't have even helped him?

No sir, too many flaws.

Something similiar happened to my sister. She dropper her iPod Touch and cracked the screen. No case, nothing. All her fault and she knew it. I went with her to the apple store and asked how much it would cost for them to fix it. Didn't even ask about a replacement. She got one for free anyway. Some of that apple tax does seem to go to customer service.

Three R's to live by. It's actually more cost effective to just give you a new phone rather than to spend time to try and fix it.

Also some of the white Macbook's with the case cracking get replaced because it's a defect with the casing.

More cost effective, really? O_o

Then why is it there are PC repair places? I mean, if it was cheaper for Dell (or whatever company) to replace the whole PC, why bother having repair centers? I think it's probably more cost effective to try fixing the old parts first.

Imagine your car breaks down, do you take your car to Honda for a replacement? Right. ^_~

Here's my point: The person at Apple didn't even do anything. The fact is, even if he took 10 hours to fix my phone, at his wage, it'd still be cheaper than the cost of the phone itself.

Here's an even more hilarious thing, I said to him, "Ah, it's probably a software issue, maybe you can simply do a restore..." (I couldn't resore it, but figured they had a special way of doing it) His reply, "Oh no, it's a hardware issue, I think..."

I think it boils down to the obvious lack of genius at the Apple Store. And btw, I'm not hating on the experience or the dude that helped me, I'm happy I got a new phone. I just think it's kind of amusing. ^_^

If giving away an iPhone in about 30 seconds is how they do things, more power to them. c:

I think the reason it is cheaper just to give you a new one is they use your busted one for refurb parts. wouldnt be suprised if the one they gave you was a refurb. I know when I bought mine "brand new" it looked like a refurb to me. No scratches of course, they replace the panels. But its really glitchy. The packaging it came in look like it was ran through a garbage disposal.

I think alot of ipods and iphones are all refurbs. And I also think the markup on these products are rediculous. Probably cost less then $100 to make.

I have a feeling they are so quick to just take the product back because they seem to sell a lot of refurbished stuff too.

It's probably cheaper to replace the phone then to spend the money on paying someone per hour, parts, shipping, stocking the replacement parts, etc to fix a problem that can't be physically seen. You might have had a problem with a radio or something. The internals of the phone to replace probably cost just as much as the phone whe you factor in all what I said above. Also, why run the risk of losing a contract and a customer? When you make profits like what they make, sometimes you can take those risks.

My wife has had her motherboard in her laptop through dell repalced twice, all due to overheating at no charge.

A few years ago, my mom won an ipod shuffle 2nd gen in some lottery at her job. She doesnt know how ipods work or whatever so I obviously get it.

It worked fantastic up until I left it in my pants one evening and it went through a 40 minute wash cycle, half an hour in the dryer, iron and a few days in my drawer. After that it didn't work for some reason confused.gif

Took it to apple like

i-dunno-lol.jpg

and qwoped home with a new one.

The iPhone costs around $150 to manufacture. Its cheaper to just give someone a new phone than to have someone on site to repair it.

Chances are your old iPhone is on it's way to a processing facility where someone will repair it and they'll turn around and give it to AT&T or Verizon, who will sell it for $250 refurbished.

Apple makes $100 + 1 satisfied customer.

GIRLFRIENDS EXPERIENCE: My girlfriend got an iPhone 4 for her birthday and a week later dropped it in the toilet (she plays music on it while in the shower) and her towel hit it into the toilet. She had thought it was her hair brush or something so she wasn't too worried, to her horror it was the iPhone...and it was in there for a good 20 seconds she said.

So yuh, when I got home from class she was crying and stuff, I took a look at it...everything worked accept for the backlight on the screen, you could shine a flashlight into it and see the icons and stuff, calling/texting worked also.

ANYWAYSSS, I called apple and said that the phone had no physically damage and that the screen just stopped working "It went bright for a second like a pure white screen and then just shut off!!!" is what I said. Long story short we shipped it off because the closest Apple store is 1000 miles away (Eastern Canada here) and she got a brand spanking new iPhone 4, 4 days later... Oh and did I mention all THREE water sensors were tripped? lol

MY EXPERIENCE: Third day I had mine I dropped it on a wooden floor and my Sleep button got lodged inside the phone... you had to use your nails to shut it off (I let my pinky fingers nail grow a tiny bit longer just for putting it to sleep). 6 months later I called apple, 4 days after the call I got a brand spanking new iPhone, lol. Best customer support out there in my opinion.

OT: DROID 3 IS MY NEXT PHONE >: D
