[Battlefield03] Battlefield 3 – Steam Boycott Confirmed by Gamestop - Page 2

Big deal, if they put it on the shelf at retail stores it will sell!

I don't care where I can get it, as long as I can in fact get it!

If they force you to install Origin just to play the game......
BF3 will be the first PC game I have bought at retail in many years, because like many others I won't use anything but Steam. I don't want 5 different game's download manager's installed on my computer.

Also while I don't think Origin will delete my games after 2 years, I don't entirely have faith in EA to not do something like this down the road.

Why do people care if this game is on steam or not?

Sure, sometimes new games on Steam are cheaper than retail but generally speaking new releases are the same price, regardless of retail or digital.

It's just sheer laziness that they can't be bothered walking or driving to a store to get it.

And if you mean to tell me you would rather not buy a game you want because its not on Steam than to just get a freakin hard copy, they you sir are an idiot (Not directed at you Jordan44, just a general statement)

Umm... No.

For most people , having a game on Steam is desirable because you don't have to worry about keeping the game patched and up to date, you don't have to worry about keeping track of CD keys, and you don't have to worry about things like install limits. If you want to play a game on another computer, just sign in with your Steam account and download away.

This is very disappointing news for me, I find managing my non steam games to be very annoying.

The more people who buy boxed copies, the better retail sales numbers will be. That matters more when going up against MW3. Steam not releasing numbers will only hurt BF3's battle against MW3. I wouldn't be surprised if EA also asked Steam to publish sales numbers and they refused.

Retail numbers are calculated in the first week. Steam releases numbers when they feel like it.
It would be hard to know if BF3 outsold MW3 if it was on Steam. Assumptions or guesstimates don't count.

EA doesn't need the money from Steam, they already have plenty of it.

I'd much rather pre-order the game, pick it up right after work, install, and play without having to wait days to download through Steam.

Probably because you don't take care of them. I'm sure BF3 will be like BFBC2 where it doesn't require you to keep the disc in the drive in order to play. I don't see what's so difficult about installing it, putting it in the box it came with, and placing it on your shelf.

You can always make a copy of the disc, write the CD key on it and use that for installs instead of the original and you won't have to worry about losing it or scratching it.
