You know what I do when I upgrade hdds/reformat or build a new PC?

Right click my steam folder, paste into program files, run the steam exe.

Call it lazy, but I sure as hell don't want to install 350+ games all over again and patch them, or download the patch after the game has been updated. I guess steam is just more convenient for those with money to blow and like to collect games.
I'm even 'lazier'... all my games are on a separate 'game' hard drive installed with no dvd cracks. I never have to reinstall anything - ever. Been this way for years. So much for steam being easier. lol

Plus I have all my game boxes, disks, manuals so if I ever need to look up controls or instructions or maps, it's right there in the box... I grab it and put it on my desk.

Steam is useless to me and I know absolutely no one who uses steam in real life. We want games, we go to the store and buy it or purchase it online and have it delivered to our doors.

Wont you HAVE to download games again in STEAM in case something goes wrong with your HD?

Not everyone has fast internet.

That's why some people prefer Hard Copies...

That's why most people have 2-3 HDD's these days . Copy your entire Steam folder somewhere on each HDD, when one goes bad. Just copy one of the backups, run Steam, and your good to go.

The reason everyone is getting mad about this is the fact that it's being shoved down our throats by EA when we have Steam that runs perfectly fine. Even if it is Steams fault, this is ridiculous. That and most people don't want to be forced to have multiple 3rd party programs on at the same time to switch between games.

Guys just get the disks or go to Gamersgate/Direct2Drive. Either way though I'm 99% sure Origin will be necessary to activate and/or run BF3 multiplayer. Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect required an activation through EADM, but only once, after that you could uninstall their spyware and be done with it - no matter how many Windows reinstalls you did thereafter.

Just hope an installation of Origin isn't required for the client to run. For the record, I don't use Steam or Origin and don't plan to unless BF3 absolutely requires it. Pointless really, some people I can understand, fresh from xbox need this whole facebook "gamer" thing, if that's you - Origin is right up your alley. Everyone else is gonna have to deal with it, what the hell else are you going to play?

Origin is a great program, so I'll be getting it from there. No loss with Steam not carrying it.

Will I buy it if I can't buy it on Steam? Maybe, I'm pretty pro-Steam, on account of them being the saviours of PC gaming. There was a good 4-6 years back in the late noughties when nobody was selling PC games in the UK... These online distribution services are preparation for console digital distribution (they're using PC sales to subsidise the architecture/infrastructure), and frankly once the consoles are setup they'll drop us PC gamers like a hot mouldy turd.

Removing it from Steam? That's cheap EA, very cheap. If you sell it on both, there's a (slim) chance I'll buy it from Origins.

From the EA FAQ
Quote:
QUESTION

EA Policy on Selling Games on Third-Party Download Sites

ANSWER

At EA, we believe in choice. We want our products in all the places gamers go to download the best games and services. To that end, we offer games to EVERY major download service including Amazon, Walmart, Gamestop, and Steam.

Every download site that hosts our games sets business terms for our relationship. These terms are often complex, but the goal is to provide a hassle-free experience for the gamer. Prices, content exclusives, and loyalty programs may differ from site to site. Consumers can pick the site that bests suits their needs.
