Looking for a good mouse and maybe pad combo

I don't have a budget really for this. I understand that the CM Spawn is probably the best mouse out atm on the market, but it is designed for a claw grip whereas I am a palm grip. I am currently using a mamba+MID shiden snow white size Medium. I am having an issue where my mamba keeps jumping to the top of my screen occasionally. This only happens with my new shiden pad. I used to use an eXactmat from Razer, but with that the mamba occasionally locked me vertically, so that I could only move the cursor horizontally. I play on a 2560x1600 monitor and play at 800-1200 CPI if that helps.

Here's a picture of my hand on my mamba. Maybe I can get by on the spawn since my hand is fairly small? Thanks for any advice.

I'm no expert on the Razer mice, but are you sure your mouse didn't just need a clean?

I would say if you are happy with the feel of your current mouse stick with a Razer.

What do you mean by clean? Only cleaning I do on it is occasionally remove the gunk on the outside from hand grime and scrape off any dust that gets caught along the edges of the teflon feet.

I'm sure he meant about keeping the sensor clean. Sometimes a little dust or hair can get in the sensor hole area or stick to the lens, blocking its view of the mousepad, and that will screw up your tracking. If it's just hair or dust, you can usually blow it out with a compressed air duster. If it's something stuck on the lens, a cotton swab can be used to gently clean it. Don't use any solvents or harsh cleaners, at most moisten the tip of the swab with one drop of water.

I tried dusting it out, but it still has this problem. So any recommendations on mice?

With the Mamba, just like the other mice that use the Philips Twin-Eye (a.k.a. PTE) sensors, you will generally get the best performance with a white or light-colored hard mousepad. I'm not familiar with your MID Shiden snow white pad, is it cloth? The PTE-sensor based mice generally do not work particularly well with cloth pads. If you really like the Mamba shape, you would be best off with a Deathadder, as it is nearly the same shape. A lot of people like the new Black Edition of the DA, with the grippier rubber coating on the sides. If you think you would like to try a fingertip or claw style grip, I can heartily recommend the Cooler Master Spawn. I have fairly large hands, and came from a palm grip (best-fit mice for me were the Mionix Naos, Steelseries Ikari, Logitech G5/MX518, in that order), and found the transition to fingertip grip pretty easy and natural. The Spawn is wide enough, that I don't cramp up using it. The main thing that differentiates the feel of it vs. the Naos and Ikari, is that it doesn't fill my palm. I've also had a DA (I actually bought a number of them for Frankenmouse projects), but the grip just didn't suit me, I got cramps in the back of my hand after 45-60 minutes of gameplay. Others love the DA shape, so it's a very individual thing, what will work best for you.

As I mentioned before, I have fairly small hands if you can tell from the picture. Think I could use the Spawn with a palm grip. I use an Anywhere mouse MX when I travel on my laptop and still manage to pull off a mostly palm grip. It's a slightly hybrid grip as only the part of my fingers past the top joint touch the mouse buttons. The Shiden is a white cloth mousepad. I initially tried to change my mousepad to the Razer ironclad but that had horrid peeling issues, so I went with a shiden instead.

OK, the question is then if you want to try another different mousepad, or to try a new mouse with the same mousepad, or replace both?
- The Razer Vespula might be a better choice to use with your Mamba and shouldn't peel
- The Spawn should work well with your MID Shiden mousepad, as long as you use firmware Ver. 30a.
- If you want to replace both, well you have a lot of possible good choices. Among the best are the Deathadder, with almost any mousepad, or the Spawn, ideally combined with a black mousepad and using firmware Ver. 32.

I was having the horizontal locking issue with my previous mousepad, the eXactmat, with the mamba so I bought the shiden. This led to the mouse jumping to the top of the screen occasionally. This makes me think the mamba is dying.
Why a black mousepad with the Spawn? I thought white pads lowered LOD. Also any reason why I should use 30a with a white pad but 32 for a black pad? I thought 30a fixed the LOD issue and 31 and 32 just fixed it more.
With firmware Ver. 32 and a black mousepad, you will get excellent tracking and the lowest LOD with the Spawn. This is what I am using ATM, and my current mousepad is a Mionix Sargas 460. A black QCK would also work well. The thing with firmware Ver. 32 is that it will no longer track on a white or glossy surface... at all. It only works with very dark or black surfaces, but it has the best LOD.

With Ver. 30a, the Spawn will track on more different surfaces and colors, including white (and black), but it will also have a higher LOD.

The two firmwares are optimized in different directions, 32 for best LOD, 30a for most tolerance regarding mousepad color. I haven't yet heard anyone say that they liked Ver. 31 better than either 30a or 32, and CM's own recommendation was to use Ver. 32. The way to look at it is, CM is giving you a broader choice of mousepads that will work well, you just have to decide how important LOD is to you vs. how important your mousepad color is to you. Personally, I don't think the LOD with Ver. 30a is terribly high, it's not too different from the stock Deathadder really. I don't know if anyone has tried the DA tape trick on the Spawn with 30a, might be worth a shot.
