I have 2 of these and plan to get a third. I just calibrated mine by eye.
The only thing I do that is really color-critical in any way is photo editing. I want what I see on the monitor to match what comes out of my printer. Both monitors were very close to each other, so I printed a few test charts.
I used them and this site,
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
to eyeball them into submission
To be honest, I didn't have to do a lot of tweaking of the settings. They were both pretty close out of the box.
Once my third one comes in, I'll only have to match it to the other 2. I used this same method to calibrate 2 ST2410's at home as well. It seems to work for me.
Hope this helps,
Rich

FYI. When you calibrate the monitor it also depends on the lights in the room. So depending on the light the results may vary. That's the main reason you have to calibrate it once a week. But most of the time the monitor is calibrated so there is very less tweaking. Unless you are a graphic designer you should be fine.
P.S. I might be wrong too.

Uh... The U2311h is definitely a dell product. Not sure what you're getting at. If you mean the panel inside, it's an LG.
Why upgrade?

It better be, because they're the ones who got my money...
I assume you are referring to the fact that they do not manufacture the panel that goes in the U2311H. They are sourced from LG IIRC.Rich
