500$ Build

Thread Starter
Here, I'll be making a 500$ build in the next 1-2 week.

I have : Monitor, Case, HDD, Mouse, Keyboard, Speakers, OS, CD Drive

I would like to have a 560 GTX or a decent higher-end card inside the build to get better performance.

I shop from Canada, therefore using those sites : Ncix.ca, Directcanada.com, tigerdirect.ca, newegg.ca, bestdirect.ca

Also, if possible, get a SLI motherboard, the PSU doesn't have to be SLI ready, I will get one when I get a 2nd card, just for now.

Thanks for all responses.

Whats the case you're using? Need to know so we can pick out a Correct Motherboard

It's a 3-4 year old case, but I'm pretty sure it's ATX big enough. Mid Tower, but the like bigger than the retail HP mid tower.

do you have a Model number for the case or the original computer package? I don't want to choose a motherboard and it be the wrong form factor.

Well, it's an Aries case, but I'm sure it is at least a Mid Tower case, anyways, you won't get a big mobo with 500$ . Just post whatever you have in mind, we will see about case after.

Well I've got some great components here but I've also hit a snag, The total for these parts comes to around $480 and thats without the GTX560 If you could squeeze another $100 It might be doable cause I can go with a cheaper motherboard but I'll post the link to the Gpu below the rest of the products.

Motherboard: LINK
Processor: LINK
Memory: LINK
PSU: LINK
OS: LINK
---------------
GPU: LINK

EDIT: Im sorry but I've crunched the numbers and looked around but I can't spare another $150 by reducing parts quality or going with lesser brands so Squeezing the Extra $150 would be your best bet.

Forgot, no OS needed . There you go, 100$,
how about this :

Phenom II 840 99$ :
http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=58644&v...D&promoid=1337

Asus M4A87TD 99$ :http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=52677&v...nufacture=ASUS

G.Skill 4GB DDR3 45$ : http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=57952&v...acture=G.Skill

Antec High Current 520w 40$ : http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=56787&v...c&promoid=1337

Gigabyte GTX 560 170$ : http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=61236&v...e&promoid=1337

With 5% taxes, leaves me around 60$ for a case or get a better CPU, PSU, Mobo?

So for the build part, you have the HDD and Case. Seeing as I have no Idea what exactly it is I will assume to use Micro ATX, which usually does not have SLI and is unneccesary if your monitor is only 1280x1024

Mobo: MSI 760GM-P33 AM3 AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard 71
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBPK
Power supply: Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
Dvd drive: 20 obviously. Or find a cheaper one.
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit..

I got all these items from newegg.ca
Also keep in mind, the OCN market place is actually a great place to get used video cards and other stuff that is fine to have used. Mobo, Case, Dvd drive, and RAM. You can't buy all of those parts from newegg.ca new because of windows 7. getting an extra 100 bucks would help you a ton. These are perfectly fine to have used. I would possibly try to look for an Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 (Any type is fine, preferably 768mb because of the small res. screen)
This is the most you would need on a single 1280x1024 monitor. It doesnt require anything to powerful. The Geforce GTX 460 on your screen alone can max out anything (with playable framerates.). Unless it happens to be Crysis 1.
