Built my gaming rig a little over 6mths ago, or at least finished it. Looking to have multiple screens, two maybe three at most. What video card would you all recommend. Below is my current set up

MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3
Antec Twelve Hundred
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4890
CORSAIR 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
OCZ Platinum AMD Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
HP 22X DVD±R DVD Burner
XIGMATEK dark knight - s1283 120mm CPU Cooler

I am not an ATI/AMD fan at all but I recognize that Eyefinity is the way to go for multiple screen setup. I would try two or three HD 6970 2Gb to run it smoothly. I hear that the HD 6990 is loud and too hot.

The downside of AMD/ATi is that drivers for multiple card settings are not as polished as Nvidia's.

An Nvidia alternative would be two (or even three) GTX 580's 3Gb version in SLi.

My 2 cents

Wow overkill much? he doesnt need GTX580's to run 3 screens smooth. dude thats $1800 in video cards!!!! Bro pick yourself up 2 6870's at mirco center and you'll be pleased. Their $209 right now and are a hell of a bang for your buck. I bought mine when i was running my 965 BE cpu, Running two vizio 32" lcds. Granted your 955 Will bottleneck them a touch but theres always room to upgade your cpu later. On the gtx 580 note, 1 gtx 580 Cannot be handled by a 955 much less 3 in sli

I think I might have confused the first guy. I want one computer screen to play games while leaving the second available to surf the internet etc.

Second after reviewing the 6870, they look good, but why do you believe the 955 will bottle neck it. I have it at 3.8ghz easily. I see your I5 is @ 5.0, but is the 955 really that outdated already?

And yet mine handles my OC'd GTX 480 (faster than stock 580) just fine.

On topic, when you increase resolution dramatically (like when you use 3 monitors) you are putting massive stress on the gpu's, so the cpu shouldn't be a bottleneck in this scenario.

Edit: Just saw your last post Texas. Since you only want to use 1 screen for gaming you will probably be fine with just a single 6950, they are the best bang for buck cards at the moment. And your CPU is fine, I should know I have the same CPU.

From my experience my 965 Black edition cpu put up this vantage score with 2 6870's it. at 4.0 i had Graphics Score 27094.and with my i5 now i get 32098.. so the bottleneck isnt that bad but its there...

965 Black edition @4.0ghz & 2 6870's- http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3285693
i5 @ 5ghz & 2 6870's= http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3306999

4.25 vs 3.9 bench it you'll see dramatic graphics difference
