Good and simple to install heatsink for i5-760 OC?

Thread Starter
My temps have been high lately, 60-80c i5-760 at 2.8ghz (stock). I need to dust it out pretty soon, but I also wanted to buy a good aftermarket cooler. I'm looking to OC to about 3.4-.3.6ghz.

What would be the best heatsink to get to accomplish this? Additionally, I would prefer for it to easy to install, like the snap on stock heatsinks. I really don't feel like having to remove my mobo and mounting something to the back of it.

-Thanks

This or this are about the best you can do without installing a backplate.

Edit: Found another. Not sure which is best between the three. I would guess the Zalman, since three heatpipes > two, and flat copper base > HDT.

There are also some older Zalman's that don't use push pins, but they don't appear to use backplates either. Not sure on those; someone else will have to comment.

Any really good after market cooler will not have snap in push pins which wil require you to take the motherboard out unless you have a cutout on the backside.

Yeah I figured that, but I don't plan on extreme OCing.

Thanks, will look into this. Will I be able to achieve 3.4-3.6ghz OC, or should I shoot lower?

I think it's funny how newegg has that TX3 priced where the 212+ should be priced

Louie: Impossible to say for certain, but I'd guess yes.

xPrestonn: Yeah, I can't believe the 212+ is still $50 on there. I can only imagine how many angry emails they've gotten about that.

My core i3 530 @ 4GHz temp dropped 20C with the Zalman CNPS5X (versus stock cooler) with Zalman thermal paste. It installs 100% from the front. No need to access the rear side of the motherboard. Make sure the black plastic ring (which converts the intel push-pin mount to amd style mount) is fully inserted.

Warning: rear motherboard access may be necessary, if you ever decide to change cpu coolers and remove the black plastic ring. I see no way to remove the plastic ring from the front.
