Just wanted to let you know how awesome this is. Very slick and professional; not to mention totally unique.
Work in progress.

I was thinking of doing that w/ the cold cathodes + LEDs in the fans but I'd have to remove the fan pcb or dremel off the plastic and risk killing the fan. They're $19 USD each

Do you have any specific wiring diagrams or switch placements yet? I was going to adapt the switch diagram from the Storm Scout club but there's the fan problem. Also, not sure if the LEDs in fans are 12v like the fans or 5v on a different circuit.

ETA: Good luck with the OCing! I built my bestie a 955BE PC in 2009 and it hits a wall at 3.8. C2 chip. Also takes tons of volts and gets hotter than hell even with a Noctua UH9 cooler (megahalem clone) and 2 loons in P/P

I can sympathize on the hardships of OCing Phenom II.
Hey now that's something I had not thought of! Totally forgot there is a lighting switch in the top of the case I'll wire the LED's to that and the UV cathode to the switch that I'll put in the back of the case. No diagrams of it at all as I'm useless with that! I'm the sort that just throws stuff in and sees if it works or not lol.

I've got the chip stable at 4gHz so far and am guessing all I need to do to get it stable at 4.1 (increased CPU voltage doesn't help) is up the NB volts a wee bit. Going to have my 24/7 OC at 4gHz but will keep pushing on just for fun now! Good old C3 stepping

Thank you so much!

I've figured out that there must be an incompatibililty with the Samsung F3 and the 990FXA-UD3. The drive spins up if the data cable isn't plugged in, but if it is... nothing. Works fine in other machines so I'm going to try and update the firmware tonight in the hopes that fixes it. If not, I guess I contact Gigabyte and Samsung and see if they have any ideas.

Sold my 1000D too so am on the lookout for a new lens for my D80 now Eyeing up the Sigma or Tamron 18-200mm. They're a good price and will mean that I can afford to buy a tripod and a remote shutter release too. Yay!

Its the easiest thing ever, I did it in a few minutes... just splice some wires, do some soldering and you are done

Wait, it doesn't work at all? This is incredibly unusual, so no response from the BIOS? I say the updating firmware route might be the best, oh and don't forget to update your BIOS too. I'm happy that I didn't have this much trouble... the only HDD's I have now are F3's

Yeah pretty frustrating. Doesn't matter what I do, it just won't work in this system. The drive won't even spin up if I connect the data cable so no, definitely not being picked up in the BIOS. Going to do all this updating stuff tonight and hopefully might get a few mesh boxes cut up tonight too with any luck!

Tried 4 of them and I think it only has 6.

EDIT: Also took the working SATA cable from my WD drive and put that into the Samsung and still no dice. It just doesn't want to go no matter what, so I'm really relying on this firmware update!

The problem has to be something simple. Keep at it, SM, you'll figure it out.

An RMA is my very last resort. I don't have the time while I'm studying! I do have the option of swapping the drive for one out of our home server though.
