CPU cooler advice for Silverstone FT03

Thread Starter
I was looking into getting an H60/H80 for my silverstone FT03 build
but am now looking for some aircooling options
so far I have these in mind (since they seem to have the clearance for my corsir dominators):

212+
Megahalems
NH-C14
Venomous X

What would you guys recommend? What would give me better performance in that case?
(note: the cpu being used will be either a 960 or a W3550, got both, still undecided what to put in this specific build)

would really appreciate your help with this =)

Honestly I'd go with the Venomous X or the NH-C14.

My Megahalem is great but its not as great as the newer Venomous X and the C14. Just remember to get some good quality fans on them!

212+ : best performance-to-cost ratio of this group. In terms of pure performance, it lags behind a little bit but its cost is substantial less.

Megahalems: will perform better than 212+, especially in its being more quiet

NH-C14: I would not recommend this for FT-03 because this is a downward blowing cooler and this air flow direction does not match the vertical airflow design of the FT-03 chassis

Venomous X: better performance than Megahalems but is also probably the most expensive.

In short, if you are money tight, get 212+.
If your wallet is fat, get Venomous X.

thanx for the advice guys

regarding the NH-C14, i would have thought that with the case fan thats blowing over that area that it would still keep the flow, but i see what you mean, will look a little bit more into this.

what about the megahalem with 2 fans would it be up to par with the venomous x ?? i ask cause i have seen pictures that even with fans it does not get close to the mem modules.

the 212+ is so cheap i might just get it to test and have as a backup cpu cooler.

are there any other coolers i should be looking at besides the ones i listed?

Corsair A70 is another alternative. It performs (slightly) better than the 212+. See pic below for how it fits inside a FT-03.

The thermal performance spectrum would be like:- VenX > Megahalems > A70 > 212+

The performance gain moving from right to left in the list above is not substantial but the price increase is (relatively). That is why 212+ has the highest C/P ratio. Regardless of price, VenX is a sure win.

great thanks a bunch!

does anyone know whats the latest revision for the venX ??( Venomous X , Venomous X Black and Venomous X-RT) ??

also, what about ZALMAN CNPS11X Extreme ??
back in the day Zalman was all i looked for on cpu coolers would this one be up to par with the venX ?

saw someone posted this review on another thread today

Noctua has a way of making your RAM compatible with the NH-D14 and the Silver Arrow.

Really, if anyone else is reading this, buy low-profile ramsticks.

yup that's the last resort really, i got those specifically because my mindset was "cpu cooler is going to be an H60" then they announced the H80 and i decided to wait, now im more inclined towards for an air cooler for this specific case/build

The original Venomous X has Chill factor II thermal paste (vs Chill factor III of the VenX Black).
VenX Black has additional mounting kit for AMD.
VenX Black is black, obviously.
Other than these 3 differences, they are the same.

VenX RT Edition and Silent Edition are both supplied with fan mounting cover(s) and lower rpm fans aimed for silence (vs thermal performance). They have Chill factor III paste too.

And, a 'yes' to the Zalman CNPS11X Extreme. It is also in the same performance category of top coolers. One note is that the supplied fan has blue LED and it cannot be turned off. Its intensity varies according to fan speed. Some like this feature while some do not. And, as it has only 1 fan, that fan would need to spin faster in order to provide good performance. This means, the noise might be higher than dual fan coolers.

again, thanks to all!
Any other suggestions would much appreciated

I'm basically going to order the VenX, still looking into the NH-C14 if airflow is not affected too much i might go with that (since they have a similar price tag)
