Zzz. Kinda surprised you were too lazy to search for it.
And at your above post, of course he was talking three cards vs two. That's what the OP was asking about. And I assume you missed why the OP was asking about 3 vs 2 or you wouldn't have typed what you did: 3 6970's are roughly the same price as 2 580's. Price was the comparison.
OP snag the 6970's or like others have written a 6990 (if you can find one for a decent price, good luck with that), and a 6970. Unless you are looking at 3GB 580's the 6970's run all over the reference design. Even with an aftermarket cooling setup and beefed up VRM's like the Lightning models. That being said, I assume from the prices you linked you are looking at the 3GB 580's? If so they are a fantastic choice, albeit at a price premium. 3GB is more than enough for any game at the moment (so far as I know), and should serve you well for a long time. But unless your talking multiple screens then that extra VRAM is worthless and your much better off with the 6970's. At any resolution the 6970's will still beat the 580's unless you hit a VRAM wall. Not something to worry about unless your going with a multi-monitor setup. However, if your going this route, you'd better be playing in Eyefinity/Surround or your wasting money.Edited by Senator - 7/17/11 at 11:32pm
