3 radeon HD6970 or 2 gtx 580? - Page 7

Rest assured whichever way you decide to go you will have a rig that will be complete overkill for running games at 1080p. That being said, if I was you, I would purchase a single card (1 6970) and take the remaining money and sit on it until "the next big thing" comes out then put it towards that. Having said that, you certainly cannot go wrong with one or two GTX 580's. There is no "wrong" or "bad" decision.

A lot of people on these forums tend to get caught up with "what is best" and tend to ignore "what makes sense". What is best? Three HD 6970's hands down. What makes sense? With a *single* 1080p monitor... well... certainly not a multi-GPU setup.

Enjoy!

This guy is all over it. Single card will max out 1080p. Save your cash.

I was simply stating that 2 580s came close to 3 6970s so sheer performance was on the 580s.

I owned 3 6970's then moved on to 2 580's.
Based on my experience is that 3 6970's are great and have awesome potential, "when they work". Just had to wait about 4-5 months for drivers and CAP updates for my 3-way configurations could work properly for some games. So yea, if you wanna go the 3-way 6970 route just have to be patient for the drivers to work on Tri-CFX
But for me i wasn't patient, so i got 580's instead. Very happy.
