Trouble Installing Ubuntu 11.04

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
Hi all. Thought I would try Ubuntu at long last, so downloaded the iso.

Now, following the steps on the download page, I have booted the ISO from both a USB drive, and by Disc. I get the options once booted to either;

a) Run Linux (or similar saying)
b) Intall Linux on this hard drive

Now when I try and install on the formatted hard drive, it come's up with a window asking if I want so and so bloatware and continue with installation

When I click continue, I get a loading effect (similar to window's egg timer, you know what I mean lol) and it sits there forever. I can still open the connections tab, and settings (no applications as it hasnt installed) and can even cancel the installation

I have tried both 32 and 64 bit, any pointers?

How long do you leave it to run (trying to install)

more than a couple hours

there should be more options. check media for defects (or whatever wording it uses) and memtest (shouldn't need this. handy to check your ram sans os though).
That being said, run linux, there's an installer from inside, on the desktop i believe, that allows you to install while you do stuff like... play games and .. browse ocn!

Oh ok I'll try running installing it from that run option then.

Also checked both hard drives I used for errors, all good.

Strange bit is as I said, the installation window hangs, but I can still cancel it and the few option menu's I have are still interactive

if all else fails, there is an alternate install disc you can get from ubuntu which does a different install method i believe it just doesnt run any xserver at all, meaning no GUI

if that doesnt quite work, you can always try a different distro that noobs still tend to love like fedora
Kinda meh now...
