I need some help. What have i done!

Ok, i have been a long time nvidia fan boy. but times have changes and i made the switch to the crimson side. Bit question. I have just gotten a 6990 (~$400, Hard to pass up) but I also got 2 6950 flashed to 6970. I only have 2 x8 slots so obviously my option would be to crossfire my 6990 with one of the unlocked 6950's. I know its overkill for 1080p but how could someone pass up a 6990 at that price?
Here is my question, I have a 700w psu, would that be enough or should i spring for more power? I am leaning towards more power. should 850W be good? or should i go 1000w? thanks.

Question 2:
I have a mess to clean up now, I was planning on having a 6 gpu rig (dont ask) but now it is a 7 gpu rig. it is 6x5830 and 1x 6950(unlocked) do you think dual 700w psu's are enough? how should i break them down?
I know each card pulls 75w from mother board so, Im guessing that's 525 w already, add in the cpu and its about 590w, add 1 6 pin connector and i am at 665 on psu1. i dont think i would have enough for all the gpus' CRAP.
... forget it, I will just convince my brother to buy one of my 5830's off me! then I will be good,

But yea, should i get a 1000w psu? or what?
may i can unload 2 cards to my brother.....

I'm pretty sure most people here know exactly why someone will want 6 GPU's

Anyway, I'd say get 1000W and call it a day. And not a cheap 1000W, but a high quality one which you can trust to actually deliver that much power. Also, be sure to check reviews (in depth, ripple-testing, etc.) before you make the purchase.

I don't think you want your PSU crapping on you with that rig

Minecraft will be perfect on this *cough*

EDIT:

Actually, Dual 700's should suffice once you distribute the load properly. (I'd say the one that is no powering the mobo should take 4 while the other 3 go with the one that's powering the mobo but this is a very uneducated guess cos it is 10:04am and I'm famished.)

Talk to Phaedrus2129, you'll get a proper answer

The highest amount of gpus you can crossfire is 4, afaik. This would mean 2 dual gpu cards, or 4 single gpu cards. Also, I'm pretty sure you can't crossfire 5000 series cards with 6000 series cards, due to the different cores (cypress and cayman).

Unless you're having each gpu independent of each other, for independent screens, in which case that would be a nightmare.

Sell the 6950's / Buy a mobo thats capable of 3 cards AND buy a TX950 if your on a tight budget, although I am not sure it has enough pins for all cards, make sure to check!

I just bought the 6950's like an hour before i grabbed the 6990. Im fine with using a 6990 and an unlocked 6950 on my main rig. my second rig where i will put all the extra cards is running on a biostar a870u3, It can hold 6 video cards. I think I will just convince my brother to take another 5830 and put one of the 6950's in my gpu rig. I know i should have gotten an Asus p8p67 pro... That extra slot is a killer feature now. lol. Anyone interested in a pristine condition ga-p67a-ud4-b3? its only 2 months old with 1 month of use.
I will have to giure something out.

Also, I wouldn't imagine ever using a crappy psu, the cheapest i go is coolmax, but i have never had any bad expereince with their psu's in the 4 years i have been using them, i got a 4 year old cug-700 and it is still stable as the first day i tested it. Im thinking of getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341045. I have never used ocz but i have read that they are good. or maybe this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341046, but i think that would be more that what i need. i figure a 6990 with the oc'd bios uses ~450w and a 6950 unlocked would use ~250w, my cpu is probably pulling ~125w that ~825 total and with a 1000w psu i still have at least 75w of headroom but if i got with the 1250 i could always upgrade my mobo and add in another 6950/unlocked without issues.... decisions. decisions
