post #1 of 9
Thread Starter
hey guys, been a while.
Just having a look at this Sapphire 6970, was wandering if it was a reference design or custom?

thanks, just a simple yes will be fine

I believe it is not reference

It's reference, you can tell by the placement of the fan. If it is on the right like that, it is reference.

I believe it's non-ref because the Ref v1 boards are Black. This PCB is blue.

I could be wrong.

Just look for the AMD logo on the Fan side near the PCI pins. If there isn't an AMD logo there, then it is not original Reference.

Cheers guys, nice to know the OCN'ers can be relied upon for straight up answers

I have one of those;

I can tell you few things;

1.- It is non-reference.
2.- It overclocks better than the reference cards
3.- It is a lot quieter (Let's say at 50% it makes the same noise of a reference card at 40% )
4.- It is totally worth it, I love that card.

I noticed you have an HD5970, I also updated from HD5970 to HD6970 then bought a 2nd HD6970.

It was totally worth the update.

Cheers.
