EVGA GTX 460 - Can't Start SLI

Thread Starter
First post, been lurking a lot as of late.

Recently built the box in my profile. I have two EVGA GTX 460's that I want to run in SLI. When I attempt to turn on SLI, either the display never comes back on, or the Nvidia control panel crashes, and I then have to reinstall the drivers.

Here's what I've tried:

-Flashed -0650 Beta Bios
-Downclocked the cards using EVGA Precision
-Disabled onboard graphics in BIOS
-Tried drivers: 275.50, 275.33, and 260.99
-After each driver test, rebooted to safe mode, uninstalled everything, used Driver Sweeper, Removed Nvidia folders, rebooted and reinstalled

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think it's a power issue, as my Corsair TX850v2 is "qualified" to run those cards in SLI. It also shouldn't be a RAM issue, as it's not OC'ed and it's from the Asus QVL list.

Here's a link to the exact GPU's I'm using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130568

Here's the Mobo:

Ok,

Uninstall your video drivers completely, download and run driver sweeper and clean your drivers off in safe mode, reboot back into normal mode. Install the latest drivers.

Once you've done this, reboot again and see what happens. If this still fails, what PCI-E slots are you using?

Also, you are connecting all the power cables to the cards aren't you, These cards use 2x6pins don't they.

Um ... the OP explicitly says he's been doing safe-mode driver sweeps between each driver he's tried

OP: I know this is going to sound very random, but check your Network Adapter in the Device Manager. Do you have a Realtek driver installed by chance? If so, try 'updating' to a different driver, perhaps the 'stock' Microsoft/Windows driver (it should come up as one of the choices if you choose all the 'Manual/Let Me Decide' options in the Driver Update Wizard)

Like I say, I know it's random but there was an issue in the past w/Realtek NIC drivers causing an issue with SLI that sounds very similar to what you describe, and I dealt w/the nearly the exact same symptoms you describe about a year back, and I fixed it by using the standard Windows NIC driver (I think it was Intel vis-a-vis Microsoft) instead of the Realtek driver for my onboard (wired) NIC.

If that doesn't work ... do you have an extra SLI bridge you can try?

BTW, Welcome to OCN, basilray

Thanks for the suggestions.

Checked my NIC drivers, and was using an Intel driver, and not Realtek. Will have to try another bridge maybe.

If you were referring to my OP, I have done this several times with various driver versions.

But, if the other poster has had some success with v270.61, I will give that a try.

I have read a few instances that there is possible conflict with Realtek audio drivers.

So, try fiddling with:-
a. Nvidia HD audio drivers
b. Realtek audio drivers

Try both uninstalled and try with only one of them installed.

Example:

The board doesnt have Realtek anything. (Shame on you Asus) Creative audio and Intel nic. That being said try a different sli bridge. If that dont work try to leave 1 card in and reinstall the driver. Reboot after driver install then try to install the other card. Make sure your connecting your dvi/hdmi cable to the top card.
