Just how bad are Xonar cards for BC2?

Thread Starter
I have a DX and have noticed the lack of positioning, etc in BC2 that's mentioned with Xonar cards.
My question is:

Is it worth picking up a cheaper sound card for use with BC2? How much of an improvement (if any) would I see with, say, an XtremeGamer (or another card for $30 or so - suggestions)? I enjoy the game enough to justify the purchase if there's a marked improvement.

If it comes up, I'm not ditching my DX for a Titanium. I pretty much love it to death for everything else.

To be honest I really don't find it that bad. I've never played it with a creative card though.

Pretty bad compared to Creative by default, but I recently tried using this configuration:

And I've found the positioning to be MUCH better. I don't have an X-fi anymore to compare, but it seems just as accurate from memory.

I'm using a Xonar Xense with a Psyko Carbon headset and positioning is great in BFBC2, and everything else at that.

I thought BC2 used the CPU for sound processing instead of dedicated sound cards? Could be wrong though.

To be honest i don't know about the Xonar sound card issues with BC2. But in general BC2 sounds as far as other player movement is horrible. If you are looking for a new sound card because you feel that you can't hear other players footsteps and such thats normal. Not sure if this helps sorry if it doesnt.

I haven't had one problem with my xonar and I can hear people trying to sneak up behind me easily idk maybe the headphones? I got the ad700 which have a big soundstage and not alot of bass so it muffles out

Ya but you can only hear those people when there right behind and usually its too late, its one of the things i've hated about BC2 since day one.
