With the Xonar you can go into 7.1 speaker shifter and move the virtual back speakers closer to your listening point.

Man thats awesome wish i had a xonar in my desktop before or this laptop because the BC2 sound is garbage and could use tweaking like that.

I use the D1 and ad700's and I find it really good. Turn on GAME mode and GX.

On headphones, I'm using RX900s, and they shouldn't hindering anything.

On the Dolby option, I really despise that mode. For me, it completely screws up the sound experience. Also, I switch between headphones and receiver/speakers, and I often forgot to turn it off before launching games.

On the drivers, I've switched to the UNi drivers and don't know where modes and GX toggle are.

One note: When reading about the Dolby settings, I opened my settings file for BC2 and SpeakerCount was set to 0. I changed it to 2, but was curious if this needed changing or if 0 defaulted to 2.

i havent personally used a xonar but i have 3 friends who each have a Xonar DX. none of them have had any issues that im aware of in BC2 or any other game. are you sure its not just bad company 2? i get sound glitches sometimes where ill hear something that isnt there. such as a tank moving or a helicopter flying by.

Just for BC2.

Would onboard to Xonar be a downgrade?

It's not anything glitchy like that with the xonar cards, it's just that positional audio cues can be a bit irregular.
