Just how bad are Xonar cards for BC2? - Page 5

No problems here with my DX, just recently played an 20 minute session before this post because I wanted to try the GX mode.
I do have Unified drivers installed though.

I'm definitely not knocking the quality of the DX. But I just don't remember such a lack of positional cues...could be placebo. It's been nearly a year since I've used the Forte.

Thanks. What all did it fix? I just checked my DPC using that tool on the site and I'm pretty low ~ 67 to 80.

Well a bunch of sound bugs for me, Like a echo effect in games, And the speakers using the wrong ports even though there where they should be, Like the bass would try and be the centre speaker and the center would be rear right speaker, Also the effects panel works now compared to the official drivers.

I should really get some new speakers though i dont know the true power of this card :/

I don't feel like I can take the same type of risks with an Asus card as I can with my X-Fi Titanium HD. My sense of hearing becomes impaired. If you see me go 55:9 with an Ace pin at the end of a rush round while playing assault or engineer, then I'm using the X-Fi. If I'm 16:9 or so, then I'm most likely playing with the Asus card (see: half-deaf).

The way I see it:

Scenario 1: If you came from onboard, the Asus card will be an improvement in clarity and positioning. Your idea of positioning in BC2 will be "fine."

Scenario 2: If you came from Asus to an X-Fi, the X-Fi's capabilities won't be very noticeable but they are there. You don't really know that you're missing anything with the Asus card until scenario 3.

Scenario 3: If you're going from playing competitively (achieving Ace pins round after round) on an X-Fi to trying to do the same with an Asus card, you'll start feeling like sounds are missing or just aren't playing back. You can start to clearly see people firing their gun but you won't hear it. Enemy chatter will also be somewhat lacking in direction. You'll not be able to notice footsteps like you were able to on the X-Fi. The Asus card prioritizes the sounds of explosions and other things over details like gunshots and enemy chatter.
This hit the nail on the head - I knew I should've passed by Best Buy to grab one of those TiHDs for like 50 bucks. I was going to wait for their new Recon3D instead. Big mistake.

I just tested my XtremeGamer, went 38-2 on Arica Harbor. Xonars just aren't the same level as Creative with positional cues.
