What is the mouse for me? So dissatisfied at the moment!

Alright. Currently I have a logitech wave keyboard & mouse. These are driving me nuts. The mouse is constantly skipping which makes gaming with it impossible and everything else frustrating. The keyboard often delays also, which makes typing this a pain. Amusingly, this is my second wave set. I'm after something new, but don't really know where to start.

Current likes about wave mouse -

Has a decent feel to it. Not in love with the shape but it is definitely a positive.

Current dislikes -

Batteries are annoying.
Not working properly.

What I'd like from a new mouse -

Nice shape and feel.

Don't particularly want and ott look like the rat.

Longevity. I want it to last.

Relatively simple. I will be gaming with it. I am also after a new mouse pad, again, longevity and gaming. So any suggestions on that would be cool too.

That's it really. Budget doesn't matter if the mouse is going to last. Will add in a link to my kayboard topic when I have that posted if you think you could help with that also. Cheers!

My suggestions:

Mouse: Roccat Kone [+] (Its a big mouse with some really useful features that work not only in gaming, but in general computing)
Pad: Razer Goliathus Speed Alpha
Keyboard: Steelseries 7G.

Zowie EC1. It feels like an extension of my mind and my KDR has doubled in every game. I was always more of a Quake 3 sort of guy, but I played CSS for the first time a few weeks ago and was scoring 4:1 KDR's or better in every server.

I know some people don't really care much about their skill in games though, so if you're one of those, go for a Logitech or someone else's suggestion .

Edit: Are you a palm grip or a claw grip? I'm a hybrid.

I'm a palm grip I think. I like the modelling of the wave mouse as you have your palm pressed against it but also your hand kind of wrapped around it which is nice.

You shouldn't expect any mouse to last longer than a year or two. Of course some can last forever but it's mostly a crapshoot. Most mice will outlive whatever rubber dome keyboard you got in the combo pack though as they have microswitches compared to rubber domes. Some mechanical keyboards such as the Model M, can last decades. Always go wired too. It's more reliable, no lag, and no dealing with batteries.

I would say the Razer DeathAdder Black. The only build issue is that the mousefeet are too thin and you may have to replace them with aftermarket ones in a few months. Shouldn't be much of an issue. The scroll wheel and microswitches are averagish and should last just as long as everything else with a mechanical scrollwheel (no bugs like in the classic Microsoft mice). Only issue with the sensor is that the lift off distance is rather high but you can fix that by sticking a piece of scotch tape over it (You need replacement mousefeet for this as the stock ones are too thin for this mod). Also with the black, people who sweat while gaming and have acidic sweat get it all over their mouse have had the rubber coating on the sides wear off but you should be fine. Maybe they just have long fingernails.

Despite these issues, it's the best palm grip mouse out there. I use it myself. The only other palm grip mouse with a good sensor is the classic Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 but the build quality has been decreasing on them and they have a low perfect control speed. The Logitech G400 has a good shape but has prediction. You can fix the problems with the DeathAdder should they annoy you, you can't turn prediction off on the G400 so I would recommend the DeathAdder.
