Calling it the xbox 3 is just as arbitrary and hypocritical as being angry that people are dubbing it the xbox 720. The Xbox 360 wasn't called the Xbox "2". I'm not saying that dubbing it the "720" isn't stupid, I'm just pointing out that raging at people for calling it the 720 is just as silly as suggesting that people should call it the xbox 3. How about xbox 360 successor...? Then you can get mad at people all you want for calling it the 720 and still sound rational.
Anyhoo, on topic, as was said before, people can claim all they want about hypothetical performance. Since we have yet to even hear of an official announcement of a successor, or even choices of hardware paths, it's all pretty irrelevant.

You see, perhaps you were just too young at the time, but back in 2004/2005, the 360 WAS called Xbox 2, mainly by the press apparently; I remember seeing that countless times on EGM, and even Microsoft said it before.
Sure, "Xbox 360 successor" is correct, I totally agree with that. I'm just saying that Xbox 3 makes more sense than
If people can't say something better
, like "Xbox 360 successor" or "next Xbox", then I'll settle for something "less worse"
But Xbox 720 is totally stupid.
