So does Xbox 360 IMO... How about we call it "The Console Soon To Be Formerly Knows As Xbox 720"

And I missed the part of the article that says it will be able to render Avatar. Making movies is gonna be a lot cheaper now!

/serious
Did anyone even read the "article?" It made no sense at all. It is literally 5 sentences long, including the title, which they don't even explain. The title says it will have the graphic detail of Avatar, the first sentence after the title just says "you should be excited," the next says every pedestrial in GTA will have its own AI, the next says they will focus less on raw power when 2 of the 3 previous sentences just made huge claims, and the last just says they are tinkering with Kinect and Move. Some article... I just did it in one sentence.

To the people complaining about the "720" name:

Get over it, it's a placeholder. I mean, I agree that Xbox 3 sounds better, but really who gives a crap?

I can't believe the posts above me. So what, they are lying? Frankly when was the last time you heard someone big lie to their community. No big company has straight up "lied" to their fanbase, and you are thinking they are lying now?

Frankly we don't even know the specs of the 720, it could kick the PCs ass for all I know!

The frames in Avatar took forever to render by a renderfarm with 40,000 CPU's and took up 10,000 square feet. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're lying.

Getting games to look close enough, that to the untrained eye, you couldn't tell the difference is feasible imo. Just because they used huge render farms does not mean graphics cannot look as good or damn near the same with much less power rendering it. I do highly doubt they will have the detail for every little aspect in any give scene, but for the most part they are probably going to look close enough to the quality that your average Joe would think they look identical.

It is a huge claim though, and one that would be almost impossible to live up to if they mean tech wise. It just can't be done and won't be for a long time to come. Good enough that 90% of the people will think it looks like Avatar? I think it could be pulled off with top of the line hardware with the added benefits of working with a set hardware/software system.

Well the problem is they don't explain themselves. The "article" is waaay too vague.

Xbox 720 will have 'graphics like Avatar' - AMD
Quote:
Microsoft's Xbox 360 successor will be capable of graphical detail level with James Cameron's movie Avatar, according to hardware giant AMD.
What exactly does that mean? If "capable of graphical detail" means that it can render a game as graphically intense as Avatar was, then no that is a flat out lie. If it looks good enough that 97% of people think it is on par and accept that statement as truth, then it is still a lie. If they mean "it will look pretty" that is a stupid way of saying it.
