[CVG] Xbox 720 will have 'graphics like Avatar' - AMD - Page 5

@assaulth3ro911 - What are you even trying to say? You are not making a coherent point. Are you saying you believe this press agent's statement is correct?

That would destroy the whole point of consoles. Consoles are supposed to be fixed hardware, that way a developer can take full advantage of the hardware, writing to the metal if they want, and not worry about people who have a ram upgrade or not, or any other types of market fragmentation.

No matter what kind of optimizations can be achieved due to fixed hardware, no games on a single high-end AMD GPU will look like Avatar, which took hours on giant server farms to render a single frame. Obviously not happening, this is pure marketing BS for headlines.

This just in: "Next gen graphics cards will have graphical fidelity of the Matrix movies!" "However, they will focus more on facebook integration rather than raw horse power".

Computers are capable of quite a bit of graphics so far, reason why the average game isn't like Crysis is because it is taylored towards wide ranges of users with different computers, I will not go into detail as many of you should already know this (I hope..)

No offense meant, but apparently some nubs think they know everything because they have a 580.

Also depending on the launch date of this console, this is probably true. WHY? Because the Xbox 360 and PS3 launched with the "NEAR" highest spec hardware available for decent pricing at the time. Predicting this may be the same for the future, look at launch titles, then look at games like Crysis 2 after being optimized.

Still not convinced but still reading on to see what else you can learn?

Well then... note: on PC the games are almost never optimized for one setup... as we ALL see. Do you know how much performance we can gain from this? Note: the console is one consistent setup, from launch titles to now, like Crysis 2 and such, the graphics have improved 2x at minimum.

/rant and history lesson

Sorry for being so straight up and in your face, it is mainly meant for the very ignorant members.
Watch Avatar again.

Do you really think the next Xbox will be capable of that?

Just look. Worse case scenario, the 720 is out in 2015: 4 years from now.
Look at the graphics of 4 years old games: ugly compared to today, but the difference is much smaller than what it'd take to go from today's graphics to Avatar-like graphics.
And remember: 4 years ago, Crysis came out. Did developpers made anything much better than that? not really no.
Even worse, graphics aren't the main selling point nowadays.

So yeah, not sure who is ignorant there. You should look for your brain as well.

Well considering that both crysis 2 and battlefield 3 look pretty freaking good on the 360 which is a console that has what? 48 unified shaders? ...i'd really like to see what these devs can do with the 1600 that comes on even the old tech of a 5870.

THQ boss Brian Farrell recently told investors he expects next-gen Microsoft and Sony consoles to be less centred on raw power and more focused on accessible services and user interfaces - "if there are consoles".

But tell me that would not completely awesome? I mean, the only console I would ever buy is the Wii U (which I plan on getting on launch) but I think it would be great for those who play consoles.

While I doubt it will look as good as the movie in all its glory, I'm sure it will be very good. If you guys recall, the 360's GPU is similar to the 7800GT, but if compared to PC games ran like an 8800GT with the optimizations a single platform gets. Considering the 8800 series wasn't even out when the 360 was, that is amazing.

So we should be seeing some very nice graphics.

This is what rendered Avatar and considering that each frame can take hours to render it seems illogical to believe that home consoles and home computers can render Avatar level visuals in real time.
http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/a...behind-avatar/

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/0...ss_pixar/all/1
"Surfaces—walls, clothing, faces—are fed through rendering software that simulates light and shadow. It also adds texture to Lotso’s fur, Barbie’s leggings, and the carpet. An average frame takes more than seven hours of computing time to render. A more complex frame like this one required eleven hours."
On this renderfarm. http://www.slashfilm.com/cool-stuff-...s-renderfarms/

Barely hitting Toy Story level graphics in games so I wouldn't expect Avatar for at least a decade. Movies aren't constrained like games. Quad-core cpu vs Weta Digitals 40,000 processors rendering Avatar.

Of the three major console manufacturers we only know when Nintendo is set to release its next generation console. The Wii U again looks to be going for something a bit different rather than pushing the enevelope in terms of processing power and graphical capabilities. However, the PS4 and Xbox 720 are expected to follow the same path as they always have: offering more processing power, better visuals, and more scope for involved gameplay and realistic experiences.

Although we don’t know when the next consoles from Sony and Microsoft will arive, AMD is starting to drop hints about the capabilities of the next Xbox.

I'm down with that..
