That totally depends on your setup. Are you going to be sitting in front of it on a desk or will it be mounted onto a wall on the other side of the room? Location and distance between you and it are paramount if you want a good opinion.

I have a 32" 1080p tv. I would say this is the biggest Ill ever consider for a monitor that sits on a desk. I would not go with a lower resolution as itll just make the pixels pop out even more compared to how much more they pop out now given the viewable area of these screens. If you def dont like the 32" size Id vote for a decent 24" 1080 monitor

I can tell you that while I was RMAing one of my monitors, I borrowed my parrot's 32" LCD and my friends did nothing but complain the entire time about the size. It was sitting on a desktop just like a regular monitor would sit and it was far too large and laggy. If you're talking about a desktop type setup, I'd go 27" monitor.

You have to look at the viewing distance between your eyes and the TV screen. I have a 32" Vizio 1080P and I usually sit about 6 feet away from the screen and it looks great. If you plan on being closer then that I would look at a 28" or maybe a 24" but a nice 28" might be the best bet.

[edit]
If it's going on your desk then go with no bigger then a 24"
