From MSI TFIII 6950 2 GB CF....to MSI GTX580 Lightning XE

Oh yeah! Am I satisfied or what? Much more stable framerates, some games even seem to run as good and the ones that don't have only dropped 20 FPS or so and were already in the 100+ range.

Civilization V also runs WAY more stable on this card than the previous setup. Its a beautiful thing. I was suprised by a few things though.

1. This card is BIG. It still fits in my case with plenty of room between the HDD cages. Its just BIG. The tool less screws even worked fine despite reading some reviews that the lightnings wouldn't work with them. The card is heavy though so I will monitor it over the next few months.

2. Its even sexier in person. I didn't expect to see green and red LEDs on the back of my card through my mesh front cage under the DVD drive. It's not too distracting. The fans or something else on the card make the side of my cage glow blue also. I don't have a fancy glowing case, just the front bottom intake has the red LED button option.

3. Like I described, I was a little nervous after ordering it. I was expecting about a 125% increase in performance of a 6950. Fraps is showing much more though. It may just be the drivers working better for the single card than the CF drivers, but I went from really concerned with my performance (not funny!) and having a bit of buyer's remorse to being pretty damn happy.

4. The card also seems bigger front to back. It doesn't 'look' like I can fit two next to each other. My motherboard has a third PCI-E slot but if I installed a dual slot card onto it, the card would be smashing down on a few wires plugged into the motherboard. Im guessing its fan plugs and such. It also can only operate @ 4x. I wouldn't mind SLI with this thing but that is something I planned maybe next tax season with a new motherboard and maybe a bigger PSU to go with it.

All in all its an amazing card and the best part, it runs the games almost if not just as good as my previous setup, its extremely sexy, its a single card solution, etc.

I saw a benchmark of the Asus DCUII (correct name?), Gainward, and regular GTX 580 and they all performed close enough to the same so I guess most of my praise points go towards just the sheer power of the 580 itself.

Now I just need to figure out my issues with my case fans and how to judge what I can do to upgrade them and how.... Im clueless....

sounds like you did something wrong with 6950's.bad drivers or something
should destroy a single 580 in every instance

No, I did everything that I was supposed to and several times over to make sure. Games were scaling right as well.

FarCry 2 and JustCause 2 were 90-100%, Crysis 2 was about 70-80%, etc

Cards were scaling right. This one is just better imo. It may not have the raw speed in "certain" games, but its alot more stable framerates.
