is pc gaming doomed? - Page 2

Heh, you realize all console games are made on a PC right?
Besides, every year there's some sensationalist story saying that pc gaming is dying, and every year it's proven false.

It's not going anywhere. Actually, other forms of video gaming have died because the PC.
Like the Arcade.

Going back to consoles is like going back to grenades once you slept with dimes.

Are there any consoles games out there with a prize pool of over a million dollars for a tournament? Well, there is on pc (aka SC2 current season GSL finals), eSports is here, and it has NEVER been that popular, this year only, not including small tournaments, there has been over 1,7 millions dollars in prize pool, not including this GSL and past season... Dreamhack said there was over 3 millions unique viewers for their viewers, with more than half of them being for sc2 only... So no, I'm not worried at all for PC gaming.... Plus, like others said, Steam is not going ANYWHERE soon.

It seems like the fairly obvious answer, but go wherever there are games that you wanna play. It's unlikely that Steam or any other major DD platform will being going anywhere anytime soon and the number of games that require activation on Steam are still relatively low.

Also, how on Earth can some of you recommend which platform to go with based solely on graphics? Are they really that important?

Not really but when both choices are roughly as expensive, consoles being more expensive on the long run (game prices), PC seems like the obvious choice, even though the only three major up sides are graphics, controls, and dedi servers. Which platform your friends use is an argument that goes both ways, not just consoles. All my friends use the PC too.

Buut for me they are important. Like, I want the best I can get for a particular game. But in general it's not as important. I'd rather play quake live than BC2 for example.

Consoles only have 3 advantages and they aren't even 100% always true
1. Bigger Community
2. Cheaper
3. Exclusives

Other than that anything a console can do a PC can do better and you even have the option of a keyboard and mouse or a controller. Exclusives is really the only draw.

I'll start to worry when Blizzard ports WoW to consoles. Until then, GAME ON MY FRIENDS!

ps. I haven't played WoW since 2007.

PC Gaming isn't going anywhere. The market is too big. But I'm not speaking for Steam. It could stay or go, I don't know and don't really care anyway. I don't use it. If I want a game I buy the hard copy.

As for games being hacked and causing a loss of business, games played online are a much different story. Anyone can hack a game. But hacking/stealing a legitimate cd-key required to play online that will never be disabled is an entirely different ballgame. So online PC games will definitely not be going anywhere.

Consoles come and go, PC is forever!

While PCs market share has been down in terms of overall gaming, there are still more PC gamers every day than there ever were. The whole pie is growing, its just that consoles have been growing faster than PC.
