Koolance res and pump question.

Im getting the Koolance RP-452X2 Dual 5.25" Reservoir for 1-2 PMP-450/S pumps. Im getting two PMP-450. On their website it says the pump is 1/2"ID, im using 3/4"ID tube. The res says that it has four G1/4" plugs.

My question is, since the pump is 1/2"ID how could it fit in the res with a port to screw in any G1/4" barb? Does the top of the pump unscrew, removing the 1/2"ID and screwed on to the res?

Another question about the pump: Can I control the pump with my fan controller?

The top unscrews from the pump and the pump screws into the reservoir.

It would have to be a pretty heavy duty fan controller to use it for pump speed control.

Why on earth are you using 3/4id tubing?
Just for a particular look?
There is no performance gain to be had from using 3/4id over 1/2id.
There isn't even much gain be had using 1/2id over 3/8id.

to be honest, space and flexability. I have read several things and been told by a couple people on here that there in no difference between the 2 as far as performance goes.

So the top with the 1/2" barb unscrews? Should I go with a larger size?

No your fine the PMP 450 dissembles into the pump top which is sized to 1/2 and the pump motor. All you want is the motor section which is attached to the RP452X2. Then you attach whichever size G 1/4 fitting to the RP452X2. The stock 1/2 of the stock pump top doesn't matter at all it's garbage when your all done.

Here are some good images from Martin's review:

As others have said, top screws off the pump. Then the silver collar screws the pump into the res.

Whatever you do, DON'T get the tubing at home depot. It is just about the worst tubing you can get.

The reservoir is a glorified pump top. The top on the pump (one on stock is for 1/2" ID) comes off and the base of the pump fits in the reservoir.
