Netbook Assistance

Thread Starter
I am looking at these two netbooks. One I saw in the Target ad and is an Acer. The other a Samsung at Best Buy. The Samsung has Intel but the Acer is AMD.

Acer AO722 $250 @Target

Samsung N145 $250 @Best Buy

I like that the Acer has DDR3 RAM, 720p screen, and has W7 Home Premium 64. I am not favoring AMD though
The Samsung has Intel but a crappier screen and W7 Starter. It is also a smaller screen.

I am going to be using this for internet browsing w/ HD Youtube, some Office for school, listening to music, and watching some movies. These seem great but could someone with more netbook intelligence tell me if this is good?

Go for the Acer. AMD's new APU's totally blow away Intel's Atom processor. My HP Mini with an Atom struggles to do basic web surfing tasks and YouTube is generally unusable at it.

But it only says it has 1GHz. It does have a nice integrated GPU though, 6250.

Ghz isn't everything. A slower rated speed cpu can be faster if it has a better architecture.

I see, the graphics seem pretty impressive for a netbook also. People say they can watch 1080p YouTube vids without choppiness or anything. More help would be appreciated, I can wait after the game is over.

makes me want the Acer more.

This.

I don't think I have the screenshots to prove it anymore, but I benchmarked my 1.6 GHz single-core Atom from 2009 and compared it to my 800 MHz Pentium III from 1999. The Atom was only about 20% faster than the P3.

Architecture is always more important than GHz, GHz is only useful when comparing processors within the same architecture.

The Acer gets a 2.8 WEI score but because of the CPU. Here, scroll down

W.E.I is a poor estimate of performance. I've lots of experience with the Atom and I've recently tried out the new AMD APU, and I was really surprised (in a good way) with its performance.

In this case, definitely go with the Acer

I think I will go with that Acer. The Samsung is ugly anyways and has worse specs. Thank you all +1.

This vid makes me want the Acer more.
If this is so then get it. Even a dual core atom with a tegra 2 chip won't be able to play 1080p youtube videos.
