CPU Cooler. EVGA Superclock Question

Thread Starter
So I am thinking about getting the EVGA superclock cooler.

There are a couple reasons that I decided on this, and can still probably be swayed, but here it is.

- It's a tiny bit less tall than most of the heavy hitters. I know, 152mm vs 161mm is not a huge difference, but hey. It's something.

- It's Black. Important. Kinda.

- It's done decently well in all the reviews I've read.

- It uses a 120mm fan. Pretty important so I can stick with the color scheme of my case. I am using the Zalman SF-3's.

Anyways. My question!

I am wanting to replace the ugly ass red led fan on the cooler with another one of my SP-3's.

Now, the top speed I'm looking at on my highest spinning SP-3 is about 1647 according to speedfan. Not terribly high RPM, but they're pretty damn good fans.

Compared to the stock 2500rpm fan though, is this going to be less than adequate?

Oh! Btw. Atm I'm running a cheap AMD 3 core, 4th not unlockable, 445.

I don't really need to overclock this much, cause... I don't know. I suppose Ill push it up to 3.3 or 3.4, but pretty much don't care.

The processor this is mainly going to be for is a bulldozer. Not sure which one. But, one of them. I know that we don't know how hot those run yet, so that's a factor... But. Just some extra information...

I have those same fans on my corsair A70. Dropped my load temps by 3-4c compared to the stock fans.

Alright. Vote of confidence. Awesome, I feel a bit better.

Any other coolers that I'm missing offhand. I looked at the older noctua c12 low clearance cooler, but blowing towards my window didn't seem like a good airway path. I have exhaust top and back.

Also, any thoughts on the Zalman CNPS11X Extreme? If I could switch out the fan that would be an ok cooler I suppose. Not a huge fan on LEDs.

Id go with a megahalems. Its not super huge like the nhd14 and silverarrow and its only a few cms taller than that EVGA cooler you posted. I have no experience or knowledge of that EVGA cooler so I cannot comment on it :/

I know this thread is a little old, however I have this cooler and I swapped the fan first thing so I have some input!

The stock fan like you said spins at 2500 RPM, It's really what makes this cooler better than most. After replacing it with a NZXT case fan (1400~ RPM) I noticed a large change in temperature.

Tested with a i7-950 (3.7ghz)

With stock EVGA Red LED Fan:
Idle:32c
Load: 53c

NZXT Case Fan:
Idle:40c
Load:62c

I ended up keeping the NZXT fan because it keeps the theme in the case, and I don't use my computer as heavily as I once did.
