windows 7 installation problems

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I have an issue that is starting to really frustrate me. I had windows 7 on my laptop, then decided to install ubuntu studio in a dual boot format. Well, everything worked fine and I had the dual boot operating perfectly. After a while I decided that I wanted to get rid of ubuntu and keep windows 7 as I had it before. The issue is that I must have screwed something up somewhere and I lost windows 7 and the partition it was on and was left with ubuntu only. I thought that was no big deal since I could just reinstall windows 7 and format my drive while doing so. No such solution. Every time I try to boot from the cd it's as if it's not recognized and ubuntu loads up. I tried Gparted to format my drive and did so, making it all ntfs. Now I don't have any OS and the cd still won't boot. Any help?

Try pulling up the boot menu right after the system POSTs, usually F11, force it to boot from the optical drive.

You probably have a bootloader problem, Win7 disc can fix it.

Yeah I tried the boot menu, mine is F12 for what it's worth, and the same problem recurred. I think you're right about the bootloader. How do I go about fixing that?

Is it set to boot from optical drive in bios?

It may of defaulted hdd and ignored the dvd drive from the boot menu.

Alt you could open up the boot menu and it will load off the dvd drive.

If you can put it into your sig rig

http://wintoflash.com/home/en/

Use that ^^ it will copy the contents of the windows 7 disk onto your penstick (make sure you remove anything off first)

And you can use it as a windows 7 install pen stick

Installs quicker too

Yea you got it.

Copy the files off and place it into a folder,

Then use wintoflash to copy the files across to your flashy . will take 5mins max,

I mean put the CD and the penstick into your sig rig (to use the software to create the bootable usb)
