I thought the same question.

You have much better and more bokeh with an 85mm lens at f2.8 than a 30mm at f1.4 just saying...

trust me i understand how to get the most bokeh possible and made my decision based on pros and cons of what was needed more a wider lens or a dedicated lens for headshots. and it came down to needing the wider side of a fast prime more than long.

i was just trying to figure out from the begining to make sure i was going about trying to get my 30 dialed in so that if i do some headshots which are upclose and need to be sharp. in order to be more flattering that i would get the sharpest possible shots out of my lens since i went with a sigma 30 rather than a canon 35L. just the focal length that i want. i know its wierd to yall what im doing but everything im doing i thought out. did not buy this 30 without thinking it through for the past month before i bought it

But.. there's a lot more to a good portrait than bokeh.

This is the part I don't get -- why would you want to be so close? You're risking odd perspective with noses and other facial features by being so close.

im not saying that im solely going to do headshots with this 30, i accidentally phrased that wrong in my head it was right what i mean is the photo obviously is upclose so i would want it to be sharp if i cropped down to a headshot from a half body shot. i didnt think it out before i typed it. i apologize for the confusion lol

no i dont plan on getting any closer than a half body shot with the 30 unless i was just goofing around. actual headshots are for the 50 and 70-200 which isnt too far away

im a little tired though as i have been doing a lot of video shoots leading up to yesterday so im realizing my posts are making less sense than what i intended. sorry if it doesnt look right here. ill post back once i rest so i make sure i make sense. i hope this one makes sense as i now understand why yall were confused by my earlier posts

Well, in either case, I would send that lens to Sigma. Git-r-dun.
