were dealing with a troll here, logic will fail us, and it has. He compared a truck to a car, then turned it around and made it look like big news when the truck has more torque.

When i compared an I7 to an opteron that was a no no though :rolls eyes:

I look at the first page. Build suggestions.

I look at the last page.
I see a comparison of cars and trucks.

WHAT THE HELL. Nobody knows how Bulldozer will turn out to be, so don't pretend like you know.
My personally expectations from BD are low.

And i5 vs i7, they're just names. a 2500K and a 2600K perform about the same, yet they are named by different classes.

dude if a bulldozer can crush an entire building, think about what it would do to a room full of i7s!

Thing is its not really future proofing, from what we've seen from that ES the 8 core BD will be about the same as a 2500K, but it wont be the same in games not optimised for 8 cores.

Over future proofing would be getting an SR2 MoBo and 2 deca core Xeons.

EDIT: Can a mod please ban that trolling new user called HK_47

what is going on with the topic of this thread?

Get an i5 or wait for BD...the choice is yours. The price will be the about the same.
Get a $150-$200 mobo if you really want to OC your chip....but PLEASE spend a LOT of time on here if you want to learn how to do it right.
Get a 6870 or GTX 570.
8 GB RAM max.
60 GB SSD. 1 TB HDD.
212+ or corsair H60.
You're off an running.....can we please get back OT.

um, what? That isn't future proofing...that is just super-building for bragging rights or legit folding work. There is no such thing as future proofing, its called biding your time until your system is too slow to keep up.

I wouldn't really recommend the 570 to be honest, to OC you need to pay the premium for a non-reference card (And find one). The best priced cards are the 460, 6870, 6950 1GB, 560 Ti and 6970 in order of performance.

And I know that people don't get SR2s for gaming or future proofing, I was just trying to make a point to the OP.

Thank you for your (on topic) input do you have a specific MoBo or MoBo manufacturer in mind?

he did say he wanted to build a gaming rig.
in that case name 1 game that uses anything more than 4 cores.
why da hell in the world would he want 8 cores for a "gaming rig".

In addition, there is no such thing is futureproof. we all know the components get outdated in matter of months.
