Um anyone with Ebay experience? (5970) - Page 2

Always put your item as non refundable and no returns!

Yes, it will give you options for auctioning, selling, and you can state a Buy Now price, that you can decide on yourself.
Say you make the starting bid for $300.00, you can make a Buy Now price for $375.00

Yes....good points in the above post!
Try to only sell to a buyer who's rated at 100%
& you can state that shipping and sales to the lower 48 states only

Don't start your auctions on a low price, start it where you think it's valued at, and look at similar eBay items to yours for a good starting point, and a buy now price.

awesome thanks guys, I'm definately repping you two up.

Do individual people have buyer ratings or do you mean there are companies/orgs on ebay that buy stuff from the individual

Sellers have too take returns regardless of what there auction says.Buyer has up too 45 days too open a paypal claim for any reason. You will have too accept it back if he simply says it is not as described. It is a bit risky, but best too just say 7 day money back return option, and then hope for the

best. For the most part people are good and you won't have too worry.Inexperienced sellers are preyed upon more often and saying as is no returns brings the scammers right out.

Thats a good point, and I agree, but never fell pray to that myself, not saying that it wont ever happen.

Very good point!

For an Ebay sale put your shipping up moderately high, and your sale price moderately low.Ebay does not take a piece of the shipping action. If you get too greedy someone will make a complaint though, not a good way to start out.You also want to make it so the buyer pays the return shipping, for as many reasons as possible. You must decide on if you want to hit and run or make yourself an ebay reputation.I would not buy from a brand new Ebay seller.Better you take a bit of a loss and sell to a friend.

I've done a lot of transactions on ebay, but only as a buyer. I have however, read what seems like a thousand rants from sellers griping about ebay and Paypal.
Unfortunately these days, it seems like all the protection is on the buyers' side, and if you want to protect yourself as the seller, there are a couple of tips I'd like to offer:

1) Figure out ahead of time what shipping is going to cost you and include it in your listing. Make sure that you use shipping WITH insurance and delivery confirmation/tracking. If you do not have delivery confirmation, the buyer can claim it never showed up and Paypal will put the burden of proof on YOU. If you can't back it up with evidence, they will take the money back.

2) Give full disclosure and take pictures from every angle and include them in the listing. State that it is used and sold as is. If they receive it and try to OC it, or drop it, or whatever, they may try to claim it arrived that way.

3) Document your packing process with pictures. You wouldn't want the buyer to contact you saying that the box was empty or packed insufficiently.

I hate that things are to the point where you have to be slightly paranoid to protect your interests, but I've heard too many horror stories. I know that some of them are exaggerated and some are out and out lies, but I also think that ebay and paypal tend to give the buyer a little too much protection and there are folks out there that will take advantage.

So do yourself a favor and be careful so you don't lose your money, and do me a favor and be careful so I don't have to read another "ebay gone wrong" rant.

As far as how to set up your accounts, and figuring out fees, etc., I'll leave that to others to help with.

Just my 2c worth, hope it helps,

Rich

A lot has changed from that loophole. Buyers have to provide substantial evidence if they say item is not as describe. It can be a lengthy battle but if you just do the right thing as a seller, you will not get caught up in that mess like before. I've been selling on Ebay for over +10 years (comic books & video games) and it has gotten much better for honest sellers.

It's better to go with the 3-day money back return option. If the buyer does not return in exactly 3 days, that transaction becomes history immediately.

Very true. The tutorials are excellent and as a seller myself I recommend that you ask some of the top sellers for advice on the Ebay community forum.

It's very important to check out bid pages to see how it's setup. Also take the time to understand your rights as a seller on Ebay and Paypal. If you understand the powers of the seller while being a honest seller, the chances of you gettin' BS'ed from buyers are very slim.

if your selling just a video card you can probably get a good price.

just dont try to sell an entire computer or get lowballed to death.
