Connecting nodes to a single HDD?

I might look into purchasing some low-end hardware to make a small node-farm, but do I need to get an HDD for each node, or is there a way to hook them up? The reason I am looking into this type of thing is because of a site that claims to pay to use your unused CPU time, and I would be capitalizing on this. (doesn't pay much, but when I go to college I will get cheap electric so it might be useful for me to set this up.)

You can have them boot from the network using pxe. If necessary you can share the boot partitions over the network using nfs or iscsi.
