My how far we've come...

Thread Starter
I bought The Witcher 2 during the Steam Summer Sale and after playing it for about 10 hours and getting right into it, I decided to take a look at some reviews of the original Witcher as I never played it. Obviously the graphics are the biggest jump but it's great to hear that they've improved so much across the board from writing, execution, animation, fluidity, etc. Here's two shots that I think sum up the progression from at least a visual standpoint:

2007

2011

Absolutely massive jump. I can't believe how far technology for video games has come. My hats off to modern developers who have to try and create games with this much detail. Also... play The Witcher 2 if you haven't! It's quite immersive and fun!

It is amazing what people can do with graphics now. With the right amount of optimization, time and intelligence, developers can do pretty much anything.

Fact of the matter is that people will never be satisfied. Yes, technology has grown a lot, and so fast the past 5 years or so, but still you have a large amount of people who are just looking at the visuals and seeking out flaws and what 'they could have made better' and NOT ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAMES. Like my one friend who has been saying WoW is the most horrible game ever (HATER TO THE MAX), but he hasn't played it, EVER, he didn't even know what I was playing when I started a new human character. I mean, what is that even?

I love what gaming has become (visuals look so awesome these days, and CoD is still the most fun LAN FPS there is); building computers has never been more fun than now, yet it just sounds like everybody is saying the same crap all round. I think we should appreciate gaming more. When more people actually buy the games they play, games will look and play even better. =)

EDIT: (just my opinion, don't grenade me plees =D)

Software will forever be behind hardware as far as what it can do until we hit a technological wall. So far we have been putting in so much effort as a race to surpass those hardware limitations that software will take years if not decades to truly catch up.
