How high can I overclock a i5 2500K w/ Noctua NH-D14?

Hey,

I'm wondering how high I can overclock an i5 2500K w/ a Noctua NH-D14? 5GHz? Also, how high can I overclock it before needing to change the voltage? 4.2GHz?

I do know there is variation amongst chips, but just a rough idea. Thanks.

4.5 - 5Ghz without a problem with that cooler. You'll need around a 1.33 - 1.35 vcore on that.

Without changing the voltage, I can't say. Why don't you want to change the vcore?

Ah great, thanks. Well, temperatures increase significantly when you alter the vcore. I'm going to see how high I can get it without changing it.

Not really,

Tbh I'd expect you to be touching 70c with a 4.5ghz overclock running at 1.33v, you might get less vcore if you've got a golden chip biggrin.gif

It depends on your airflow, thermal paste, Heatsink seating etc. You've got a very nice cooler so I wouldn't be too concerned biggrin.gif

The whole reason why you get the good after market CPU cooler is to up the voltage so it can take the heat.
If you are on stock cooler and want to OC then it is kind of understandable to not want to bring up the voltage.
But you have one of the best air cooler around!
Go for it. I have the same cooler and i5. Mine is at 4.8GHz @ 1.376v right now max at 80c on stress test. It is hotter side but I personally don't mind smile.gif

new yorkers should come together and do an LN2 run or gaming in a huge meeting...
On Topic: You'll get at least 4.8Ghz but i wouldn't be surprised if you got 5.0Ghz. Its a beast cooler!

I wouldn't say at least 4.8.
Some won't even go past 4.6 stable.
So I'd say 4.6 is doable on any i5. (some really bad chip won't get there but that's rare.)

To me it was easy to make it to 4.6 stable but above that gets harder.
Anyone can get to 4.8~ but it gets harder to make it STABLE.
