GTX 580 graphical issue - Page 5

I believe there is an issue with 5xx series cards. I had my 570 start artifacting on me all of a sudden and would freeze on games. It was to the point I couldnt even watch a youtube video or use photoshop with my card underclocked.

I had my RMA setup and I was just about to ship it out then I thought I would try it in another PCIE slot. To my surprise it was working fine. I returned it to the primary PCIE and it worked as if there was no issue before.

Then someone posted here having a similar issue, where the 580 was working fine, then one day started acting up. One reply to his post was that Folders found an issue with the 570, 580s that if you leave your computer on 24/7 that the card will become completely unstable after approximately 40 days of use.

The fix is to completely power off the computer and leave it shutdown for appox 5 minutes. Thats why when I switch PCIE slots the card worked again.

I noticed that for the p67 boards the chipset heatsink sits right under the card when using the primary PCIE slot. While my computer was running i touched this heatsink and found it quite hot. So I took my card out and applied duct tape to the small vents that would be sitting over that heatsink to see if it helps to block this heat from affecting the internals of the card. So far its been 20 days, I guess I will find out in another 15-30 if I start to get the instability issues.

Newegg, I would always recommend going to the place you brought the card from before going to the manufacturer.

They normally deal with RMAs a lot faster with less hassle.
